Title: Poor form
Post by: Ben robinson on November 30, 2013, 10:18:08 PM
Last year I had a good season, hitting a few good scores and was comfortable at the crease. My indoor season has not been going very well. After 4 games, my highest score is 5, I don't feel  comfortable at the crease at all and my footwork is all over the place. Has anyone got any advice on how to overcome this problem?

Form is all in your head, stop overthinking at the crease and focus on hitting the ball.
When doing this foot movement should come naturally.

Thanks, I will put this into practice in my next game.

What he said. Form is purely mental, just see ball hit ball. Just don't play silly shots, straight bat etc early on and go from there, think confidence, believe that idiot bowling at you isn't good enought o get you out and you'd be surprised how slow they suddenly bowl :)

Throw away all your kit as its not doing its job and buy more but make sure its more expensive than the previous kit. That's what proper forum people do  :-[

On a serious note I find there are two ways to over come poor form. Aim to bat long and find form or just hit out at everything. I personally do not buy this form thing as unless your a pro you don't play often enough to find form. I bat about an hour a week in winter so never could be in form at this time of year

If form was purely mental why do we bother practising ?

My advice. Get in the nets and practice, then practice some more.

Not sure amateurs bat enough to be in form ? Even if you play a couple of t20's and weekends unless you get to bat in all 4 and long it's probably more down to luck on the day at our low levels.

If you do net every day then surely that makes us more consistent rather than 'in form'

In the summer when games are abit longer. I tend to do one plan if I feel I'm out off form.

I pick one shot. One shot I can play well, and I only play that's shot.
Everything else I defend or leave.
Once passed 30 I'll extend my shot selection,

Bit hard to do that in a short indoor game though.

I wouldn't worry about indoor anyway fella, it's rubbish :). If the oppos take it serious I just bat down the track or start batting left handed to bug them :)

Just go out, clear head and strike the ball. If you get out it doesn't matter as it's indoor. If you do well then great, concentrate in apr/May when proper cricket starts :)

Because you need to improve on the skills you have in order to use them, if you'd never picked up a bat before would you be half as good as you are now?
Net practice is a great shout, but I stand by my original point.
