With Michael Clarke , Darren Bravo , Chris Gayle , Ms Dhoni , Mitchell Johnson, Matt Prior on the books spartan have signed to New Zealand quickie Neil Wagner. Saw it on the TV batting against the West Indies in Dunedin . Seems to be using the MC 2000. Interesting signing seems Spartan is trying to branch out in The NZ market any opinions on this ?

I wouldn't say that Wagner is a signing they would be trying to use to get seriously into the NZ market. You'd need either a top order batsman or somebody like Vettori who was a major name in NZ cricket.

Mitchell Johnson has been using Spartan the longest.

Yeah, pretty sure he was the original signing. That said though, he's from Aus.
Wagner's currently being a dirty slogger, NZ 598/8. Ouch!

I think that it is a start they were talking about it in commentary so it gets the name out there ,

You'd have thought that Spartan don't worry about money so if they wanted to really go through to NZ market they'd offer top dollar to the likes of McCullum, Taylor, Williamson or something. Clarke as the big guy probably covers Oceania, though of course you're going to want other guys using your gear not just one.

I got a bat in 2003 from Javed Miandad's younger brother's cricket shop in Pakistan.
it was a Spartan (or a bat with Spartan stickers) and a dean jones signature as well. There is
a video of Dean Jones promoting spartan cricket recently.
used it for a long time, don't have it with me, but have recently wondered whether it was a real Spartan or not.
The shop owner said these bats were going to Australia.

I have a plastic backyard cricket bat which I've had and played with for about 10 years with Spartan stickers on, only realised it was a spartan branded bat after Clarke started using it.

Chances are Wagner has just borrowed a "proper batsman" bat. Can't imagine Spartan would sponsor him for much. Hardly an automatic choice for NZ.

Must have borrowed their pads and gloves too!

Didn't Wagner use Slazenger before? I think I remember someone saying that Aus Slazenger and Spartan were connected in some way? A viable progression if so.
Johan Botha and Marcus North are Spartan pros too.

Which ranges are Botha and North using? Surely they can't have their own ranges too!

Unless Spartan are desperate I wouldn't, as a marketing professional, be giving Wagner a freebies. Ross Taylor would be best, but expensive.

Some people don't know how long spartan have been in the cricket scene. They had this ugly logo which looked like those tapout logo's on fighting equipment and only sold at specialised cricket stores in Oz(those are the only places i saw them). The first ones were backed by Dean Jones, and then the following years, I belive it was alan border who also endorsed the gear. And then some genius probably took over the company and surged marketing and turned it into the next big company. I'm not a spartan rep, so don't crucify me if im wrong, im only speaking from memory of seeing these in some shops ages ago.

Surprised they haven't got a big saffa yet like AB or Kallis
-
Kallis is finished.
Is there much of a market in SA for kit sales?

When I went to South Africa the kit available was minimal, Reebok, Wasp, B&S then a few places stocked GM, GN & Kook kit.
(I may be totally wrong but that was my experience)
-
I suppose thinking about it, a lot of Saffers play in the IPL and that would be "some" coverage.
-
AB has re-signed with Kook after lengthy talks with Spartan is the last i heard.
-
AB would have been the ideal signing
