Is the split anything to worry about? Will it significantly shorten the life of the bat?

Hi Matt
Have you got a picture 'up the spine' for the middle Amplus shape bat?
What would you grade it one your grading system?

Did you say "Doah" and do a facepalm when you cut the handle v from bat 3?

Gotta be the best boutique maker on the planet, even the rejects are stunning.

Matt,

Are the 2012 and 2013 Hattori shapes the same, is it purely the stickers that are different?

I agree, at 5'8" I am considering whether to try getting away with a Harrow, would save me a packet!

Bat 1 sold.

There are few things I can resist, one of them is a H4L.

This is a rather dumb question I'm sure, but how much does that kind of crack in the shoulder limit the bat's life? Will the handle eventually snap?

Bat 1 arrived today.

Spoke to Matt about the defect. He tells me it won't have any detriment to the bat. If it was a pup he wouldn't sell it.

It's a bargain and I feel I stole it.

No worries.
Oiling the bat up as I type!  I think it's very dry, soaks the oil up.
Was going to get the bat rolled, not sure if the face and edge profile is suited to that?  Otherwise it's up to me and the mallet!
Post that it seems a shame to put a scuff sheet on it, but I haven't owned a bat without one in years. - thoughts?
The only other comment I can make is the handle feels thin( I have been using a GM Flare) so a second grip.
Cheers

I've just finished knocking-in bat 1 in this sale thread. It's my 5th H4L.

The best results I've found with H4L is to leave the scuff sheet off for knocking-in. The grains should 'open up' length ways when it's ready.
All of my H4L's have done this.

Matt makes a mean bat.

Post by: 13th Man on January 23, 2014, 09:24:39 AM
Ok so it's been oiled up , 3 Coates.
Purchased the deluxe GN mallet today.
Ordered the shamrock scuff sheets last night.  Does anyone bat without one anymore?
Give it a belt over the next few days.
What I have found fascinating is GC gave my mate advice regarding his new Kahuna purchased today, roll it first ( done ), oil it ( I'm doing that, Laver method) hit it in with mallet and then scuff sheet. Different opinions on knocking in method especially pertaining to edges - confused!

Next bat might have to be a Kashmir willow blank or an aluminium one!  Wouldn't make a difference to player ability!

Oh, Bat looks great oiled and a few taps with old ball sound promising.

Title: Knocking in
Post by: 13th Man on January 30, 2014, 02:24:15 AM
When can you tell that the knocking in is done?

Anyone got some photos?
Title: Re: Bat sale time again..
Post by: Marc28 on January 30, 2014, 07:06:50 AM
In all honesty you cant tell when the process is done as every bat is different but normally i do 3-4 hours on the edges and around the toe and then maybe 1-2 hours down the middle of the bat,
i'm getting an NV from Matt soon and will do this as with all my other bats, before using it in the nets against a bolla machine first for a few sessions before going cricket ball on our training seesions.
but i think around 4-5 hours is sufficent for a bat to be knocked in provided you then dont go straight in against your fast bowlers with new cricket balls.
Hope your bat performs well for you and that this may have helped.

Thanks Marc28, good advice.

Probably the hardest thing is you just want to unleash with it.

Those NV look awesome, hope you can wait that many hours knocking it in?

Cheers

Mark
Title: Bat 3 Hit In - I a Think?
Post by: 13th Man on January 31, 2014, 10:31:38 AM
Ok I blocked for a bit, then started hitting, but no seam or dints in the face. Next a scuff sheet.  A few hours knocking in. Very sweet middle, made my GM Flare look mediocre.

Mates Kahuna a few seam marks, 1 hour tops knocking in, didn't come off the bat as well.

I have added A kookaburra grip, feels nice!

Hi Matt

Bat knocked in, was worth the effort, appreciate the forum expertise on this, 3 solid nets including a new ball, no problems.  I took Marc28 's advice and as yet have not added a scuff sheet - but think it best to do so.
Added a second grip, scales say 2.86.  I found the handle a little thin.

I would say it feels a little bottom heavy to me I'm missing a few cuts / cross bat shots.  My current game bat is a GM Flare, it feels dead in comparison, but is good for cuts, flicks cross bat shots.  Is the Hellfire a mid or low middle?

Clearly the best bat I have owned, the ball really goes off the bat like a rocket.  Very happy with my first purchase from here and advice.

Cheers

Mark

Yes, few do. I have had no sheet on my bat, was meant to put one on but just didn't get around to doing it so didn't bother after the season. Bat has been fine and I am a serial edger ;-)

Not got a scuff sheet on my CA and quite like it that way but my new weapon comes with one fitted so will have the best of both worlds.

I try not to use them. I've had to put one on my Black at Joker because it's falling apart.

If they die it gives me an excuse to buy another bat.

Also, it's nice to see the blade.

Careful, Matt's bat's are addictive. You'll find yourself hankering for more and you're team mates will be clawing at your kit bag to borrow/steal yours.
Lost count of how many are in our home.

Just an update on the first bat in this sale thread. The Long Blade.

I've taken a couple of ounces off and it's now a tidy 2lb 9.

I was doing some work with a current international cricketer and when we got past the job in hand we started on cricket. He told me he's seen the Dutch player H4L kit and loved it. Bats, softs, the lot.
Of course I mentioned my stash and as we where just round the corner from my home, we popped back.

He uses a long blade. When he tapped it up he looked at me as if he'd got the lottery. I've lent him the bat and he's waxing lyrical.

Nice to hear from a proper player that you're using top kit. Also more evidence that our Matt is turning out kit which is at home on the international stage.

I've left him with the H4L for the next few weeks so it may even be used in an international match!

If it gets used, will it retain its stickers?
Title: Re: Bat sale time again..
Post by: fasteddie on July 30, 2014, 10:22:00 AM
I have absolutely no idea.

If he does want to use it, and he might as his current match bat is almost in two pieces, he might have to take them off. I'll guess I will have to let him do whatever he needs.
He isn't sponsored by them anymore and that is blank.

I can always get it re-branded by Matt.
