Title: Considering New Gloves....
Post by: tailender on December 18, 2013, 06:51:50 PM
I currently have a pair of Larson gloves that have certainly seen better days!

I have been looking at various gloves this winter and may well purchase some straight after xmas.

I have narrowed my search down to three possibilities and would like your feedback on them guys!

My three are:

1- Kookaburra ricochet 1000 - £65.96
2 - Vanquish Elite - £45.00
3 - Salix Pod Chrome - £72.95

I must admit I am really swayed towards going with Vanquish for a few reasons really. I have two of their bats and would like gloves to match (sad I know), these gloves are genuine pittards and I think that's a great price and also... I think they look great.

What do you guys rekon I should do? really like the Salix gloves too but just don't know if I can justify paying that price!

Taken a few photos from their websites for you guys to look at

Save yourself some money and get the Vanquish ones, and it's not sad to match bats to gloves, it's proper haha  ;)

Difficult to say with seeing them in the flesh

Of the three, I do like the look of the Vanquish ones.

My choice of glove would be Puma.

which puma ones mate?

I do like the look of the vanquish ones to be honest.  I quite like the salix too but cant understand why they are so expensive!

Salix are expensive because they are Salix.

I have Iridium 5000s at the moment, but any in the 5000 range are good.

The new Chromium ones look very smart (lot less colourful) so they may be my next pick when I need some.

I personally wouldn't go for the Salix, they're just a little too pricey. The Ricochet is a good option though, and the Vanquish ones look decent too. Hard to say from a pic, but looks like they have extra protection on all the fingertips. I find Kookaburra and Puma make really good gloves, so either wouldn't be a bad option. Best value for money is probably the Vanquish though! Prodirect and Sports Direct always have sales of last season's gear. It wouldn't be a bad idea to browse around on those sites. :)

the Vanquish ones look like the bulk of the thumb etc  is made of cotton mesh ? the Salix ones are made of pittard and all leather so that is what I would say is what you are paying for if it was me I would look at the pod ones if you are looking at Salix. if you are looking at gloves Its Just Cricket have some great gloves in sale at the moment

yeah I think the thumbs are made from a mesh like material, although that's just what I can gather from the photos.

They are genuine pittards as well.

I do like the salix but they are expensive.  might have a look for some others before I decide... decisions decisions!!

I've just got some Affinity gloves and pads,,,£100 for both,,,nice quality and feel,,,,including pittards palms

I've always used slazenger top end gloves until now,,,,very good gloves,,again with pittards palms,,,and I always found the slazenger had a bit more length in the fingers.....
I've probably spent longer trying on different gloves than anything else,,,a lot of manufacturers do tend to differ,,,and comfort has to be almost as important as protection when choosing..
I've made the mistake in the past of penny pinching with gloves,,,,it's always worth buying the best you can afford

I think affinity softs are now made by champ and I'm not too keen on their gear. I may wait and see what other forum sponsors release

I thought Affinity Softs come from wherever Ayrtek got their's from, as it is the same? My Ayrtek gloves are brilliant to be fair.

Will try and upload some pics,,,I've also got a couple of Affinity bats

I'm not sure where they are made,,,,I think Marcus had a tie up with Ayrtek,,,,but the quality and comfort are a step above my old slazengers,,,luckily I've not tried the protection out yet..
The pads have exceptional protection,,,I've padded up to a few quickesh deliveries,,and you honestly cannot feel anything!
I tend to replace pads yearly these days,(they just don't seem as well made?),,, but hopefully these look as if they will take a lot of abuse

All I would say on the Salix gloves is I had had a pair of the pod pro gloves for 3 seasons now and they are in very good condition, they do last very well so you do get great value for money. The counter argument is you could get 2 pairs of others brands for same price. Vulcan when they were on here had some full pittard gloves for £30 odd a pair may have even been less so may be worth a email to Dean as there gloves are very good having used them.

But you have a different pair of gloves for each bat and we all know about your bat collection Chris, using a different pair every game would help prolong their life ;)

I bought some puma Karbon 5000s from prodirect sale, and they are hands down some of the best gloves I've had. Very comfy, very maneuverable and good protection.

I enjoyed using my b3s last year, but they had some wear issues, but they have changed the palm design, and added wear patches for 2014. So this should be sorted.
Protection was awesome, but as these are the same gloves the b3 pro's use, I'm not suprised.

I've got some gm original 2014 model on the way. I loved the colour scheme on these and the six6 so thought sod it, I'll have some(and jake did a good deal when I bought gloves and bat together from vitas) will comment on how good these are when I arrive

Also have some m and h original gloves. They feel great, very comfy, good protection. They just look abit funny. Not referring to the tan and white theme, just they don't seem to sit right when not being worn, fingers go off in all directions.
Not just my pair either. We bought quite a lot of m and h stuff at our club together On the sale, for 1 delivery. And all the original gloves look like this?
