Evening guys
I know the seasons a while off yet, but I want to sort a decent pair of boots ready for the season
For the last couple of years, I've had my sons cast offs,(which I've bought him!)
This season though, I want a decent 'new'pair
To be honest,I've always bought cheap crap for myself,so I've no idea what's a decent pair of boots these days?
I'm not bothered about brand snobbery etc,
I want full spike,,good support,as I bowl a bit,,gotta be nice and comfy
Would be nice if they don't drop in bits after 5 mins too
I've spotted some Adidas adipower vector,,look ok?
Any thoughts/advice on this,most welcome

When going for shoes I always look at brands who actually make shoes individually (Adidas, Asics, New Balance or Puma) rather than a cricket brand who release a range of shoes (Gray Nicolls, Gunn & Moore, Kookaburra ect.)
You'll pay a bit more but to my mind it's worth it. Stick to that advice (as I have done since it was given to me) and you should be fine mate.

I must say, Cameron has hit the nail on the head there. That's the key fundementals I use when buying shoes!!

Pro direct have some decent spikes on sale. May be worth a look mate. Nike or Asics mate just stick with either of those and you will be fine.
-
I'd see what the sponsors can do.
Failing that, Asics have an Outlet on York ring road.
Gel advance 4s are £58. They do 20% off on Thursdays. I think there is a sale on now.
-
Cheers guys
I will bear that in mind
I've always liked Adidas trainers

I swear by them buddy. They're comfy, offer decent support and dot look bad. Can't think I what more you'd want from a pair of spikes.
-
Hmmm
Asics gel speed menace@ pro direct @ £75
£30 off
-
My sister in law does triathlons and the only shoe she will wear is asics, I'm going down to the York outlet next week to see what they've got

If you can get to an Asics Outlet then I recommend it. Managed to get a pair of Strike Rates for £40 on their 20% off Thursdays

Wouldn't like to be dragged by the balls between them :D, must be 30 miles! But if you are making a day of it, easily do-able
-
To be fair, if you are making a day of it. All rounder at Headingley is worth a visit. Sale on at the moment.
-
I'll throw my 2 cents in and say that my Asics are the most comfy cricket shoes I've owned.

Always used to use Romida, but there after sales was a joke

Bit of a pattern forming here, I would never have even looked at asics before

I drive about 1300 miles a week, so 25 miles is not too far out my way
Would be worth it to see these oversized clefts,I keep hearing about
-
I've been to MacArthur glen at York today, if you are a size 6 1/2, 7 or 7 1/2 asics gel advance 4 in black/red are £38 otherwise the blue are £58 in all other sizes.
-
Yep - Asics all the way.
I own two pairs of Kayano's for running (I had a pair before these two which lasted 10 years and they were used lots in that time - Tiny bit of wearing when I sold them on eBay!)
A pair of Asics bowling boots which have been going for years!
A pair of Gel 180s for batting in.
They are just so well made. I wouldnt buy another brand with quality like that
-
Gotta be honest,,I've never even tried asics on before.
All comments sound good,so will have a look
Cheers guys

That explains why I love them but our stick insect opening bowler prefers Adidas! :D

Asics were the chosen boot of Billy Bunter and Dwayne Leverock.

Dwayne is my sporting idol, if it's good enough for him I should be honoured to use the same!

Have a look at the cricket doctor.
Buy a pair of trainers , send them to them somewhere in somerset and they will spike them up. Just a thought, that way you can get try and get trainers that are suitable for your feet as well a them being unique (instead of a generic pair). I'm considering a couple of pairs for next season. Couple of lads I play with have them and they do a really good job.

I did consider this but at £30 spiking plus the cost of the shoes it worked out cheaper to buy a pair of spikes.
-
I've looked at the asics range, and they look more suitable for what I need
With trainers, I would need the uppers to be all leather,,like a cross trainer,,otherwise I tend to push my big toe through the uppers, when bowling, and also,, a full leather upper, just gives a bit more protection, if my foot gets hit with the ball
My missus has just bought some decent Nike cross trainers, and they were £110
Add on the cost of the spikes
Thanks anyway

Just an update on the new boots
Bought a pair of Asics gel speed menace from Asad at Uzi, ,
Top service, and a decent price
Thanks to everyone for the recommendations
The boots are a revelation after years of my sons cast offs!ha
Played with them yesterday, and didn't want to take them off, I bowled 6 overs, no big toe or foot ache, nice to bat in, and very comfy for trying to chase a ball around a field
