Just got me thinking. Assuming that Haddin wasn'tt taking the mick, what position would that leave Carberry in with everyone knowing he is batting with a restickered GN.
Isnt this some form of misselling if you are inducing people to a certain range when your not actually using it? Generally, we know pro's often have them custom made so is the culture of the big bat makers somewhat devious...accepting this kind of thing just for the media coverage?
-
Pretty sure Haddin was taking the Mick.....
Sent from my HTC One mini using Tapatalk

Haddin is also sponsored by Kookaburra, I'm 99% certain he said it as a joke...
-
They were even laughing and talking about it on commentary as a joke.
I don't think Haddin would expose that his own sponsor are just stickering up bats
-
No it was a deflection thing and aimed at Bailey a GN sponsored player.
-
Quite possibly ;)
Still the general point stands though...sponsored players using another brands bats.
-
Some brands do not make there own bats so yes some use other brands bats.
-
what did haddin actually say? cant quite work it out from the video on youtube??
-
I head Clarke say something about sympathy

To answer my thoughts on your actual question. I'd have no idea who uses what on the whole but there are a lot who are basically using stickered up bats. I personally believe it's miss selling when player x is promoting say a kook kahuna but not using it... Not exactly endorsing it if you won't use it !!
-
Haddin was pleasing his boss i-e Kookaburra :D
I am pretty sure it was all fun, they were teasing him !

That pretty much sums up the general point i'm making. I know money talks but at the very minimum thay should use the endorsing companies products.

I think so...he was laughing when he said it.

Agree that the bats should be those of the sponsoring manufacturer.
Conversely, how would the manufacture feel if such an incident happened when if is not their kit at fault?
-
Aussies seeing a Kook breaking are obviously going to be put off ,somewhat, of buying one, so Haddin was trying to say that it wasn't one, to save brand identity?
I don't see how people can take this as "Oh it's really bad that Carberry is using a stickered up bat", when in reality the majority of pro's do
-
I understand what your saying but people like new balance,Adidas,Kookaburra to a degree do not make there own bats they have them made under licence
And now other big brands are using others under licence it hard to pin point people's bats.
You could have the same bat same model but made in different continents.
Just enjoy your bats for what they are bats no matter where there made I say .
And Carberry bat is a kookaburra looking at the shape and what the sticker says
-
If they are made under licence to the same company that makes the bats (or at least the top of the range ones) for the retail market too, I think that's perfectly OK.
If it is simply a sticker, I think that is misleading consumers.
-
I think everyone is over thinking it.
The bat is like an advertising board, it should be there to promote the company. It shouldn't matter if it is made by them or not.
I am sure we have had this conversation before and reflected it with the car market.
-
Yes, there are similarities to other markets, including car manufacturing.
The bats are not just marketed on the pitch though.
Have a look at the Kookaburra website, the inference is the players are using the bats.
The most obvious example last season was Ian Bell, who clearly wasn't using a Menace shape.
-
Same as the menace mitten gloves mate, however he was wearing the mittens on the stock photos

Doesnt bell get his bates made at hawk?

He used to now I think kook makes their pro bats

The broken bat is being donated to a cricket museum. There's a close up photo of it doing the rounds. Unable to provide a link at present. Have seen other comments that it is very likely storm damage.
-
I think he says: "gray- nics fellas, it's just got stickers on it."
-
it doesnt look like a GN to me, was quite amused at how a ball from harris did such a damage...
-
Brad Haddin made the joke into the mic as hes obviously a Kook sponsored player as well....he was making a joke of the fact and saying that it wasnt a kook it was a stickered up GN bat in an attempt to make light of the fact that it had broken and is his sponsored brand.
-
Defo a GN :)
It was an obvious joke ! Can't believe anyone would think otherwise
