I would go laver very very pleased with my private bin it goes like a gun
-
laver if u have the cash, warsop if u normal, and if ur cant spend much solitare
-
Laver bats look fantastic, but I find it hard to see the good in buying a piece of willow that has travelled down to NZ to be made only to travel all the way back. The part of me that recycles rubbish doesn't like the environmental aspect. I say buy British!

redback, no question

I agree with you but even if I had £300 to spend, I don't think I would get a custom made laver as the solitaire would be the same shape, profile etc
Could be just the way I have been bought up:
'You earn what you save'.....

i think the quality in the wood and the weighty aswell as the size of middle is probly higher than with a solitare

its always baffled me how roger can make g1 bats for 100 - maybe you are right - maybe the willow is ONLY JUST grade 1 and not like the players willow etc
-
The highest grade the majority can buy from Wright's is G1. He'll still be making 100% profit and as he doesn't sell through retail he can afford to sell at only £100

Once you include glues, handles, stickers, binding and grips not to mention labour if he's hand shaping and finishing it doesn't seem worth it

I'd imagine he's not buying grade 1 all the time, if at all - but like i've mentioned elsewhere, he cant keep those prices for long as there is little money in it for him. Norb - I'm still on the search for that elusive bristol twine, im headed to an upholsterers today to get hold of something similar i hope!

Big money = Screaming Cat - Laver & Wood -Millichamp & Hall
medium money = Chase - Redback - Hell for Leather
Bargain = Solitaire

I'd imagine he's grading up as well as down, we all do. Depends on what the willow is like from source and how well it is graded to start with...
Bristol Rope and Twine - http://www.bristolrope.co.uk/Menu.htm (http://www.bristolrope.co.uk/Menu.htm) [not Bristol twine but you can get binding stuff from the link]

May just be doing it for enjoyment and charges to cover costs, or possibly to build up a brand name. Better idea to build up a reputation than charge 200 quid from the start.
-
When he first set out about 2-3 years ago he used to sell the bats on Ebay @ £60!
-
WOW!

I got one this year off Roger and without doubt its the best blade i`ve bought....went down to see the shop and i reckon he`s simply undercut the market to establish his brand, tho whether he can hold that price, will become evident.
At the last count, six of my teammates have also bought bats off him,and i`m glad none of them are duff.
Has to overcome his website problems though...
