Title: Sneek Peek!! Feedback Please
Post by: Ayrtek Cricket on September 30, 2009, 02:32:56 PM
The SLS model has arrived so i have sprayed in navy blue and very delicately attached a grill to try and give a finished look (as best possible) to the 3D wax model.

What are your initial thoughts? This is your chance to give feedback on the design which may be taken on board an feature in the final design to be appearing on the professional circuit shortly.

Cheers

Tom

Looks good, i think that it would look better if there was a larger angle between the peak and the front of the helmet, with a more gradual curve, in between this model and the original one.

just don't albion the albion vents and you will be fine, maybe a long vent running above the grill line down the side

I agree with Apple. Go with the retro cloth covering! FTW!

May have to knock up a cloth covered version once we have some full samples to see what the finished effect is like.

Given that you have now seen what the prototype version is like would people consider buying the helmet comparred to others like Albion/Masuri/GM etc? if it was lighter and safer? or do you buy purely on looks and what the pro's are wearing?

there's an old helmet at our college which has a 'fur' like cloth on it, that would cool! and retro!

Ayrtek, I think that shape is very good but to make it even more traditional I think you should cover the top in cloth (like everyone else before me said lol) or use a spray which gives that cloth-like look. I would buy that one over the Albion because its more traditional and over the Masuri because the vents must have better ventilation than the masuris. How much are you going to sell it for (with the titanium grill)

I would also like to see some ear pads on the grille itself. Would add to traditional look you are trying to achieve

Yeh i prefer the original to be honest, i would buy a helmet depending on weight and protection not on what the pros wear but i suspect im in the minority

The plan is to have both models to cover a greater range in terms of people looking for a modern design and a version for those who are more traditional in their tastes.

im totally different, i would rather wear it if a pro was wearing it. having said that, i would never wear the puma helmet or the GNs

Why? They most often get paid to use their gear, what suits them might not suit you. Be your own man not a sheep!

oops and i only use a masuri as its the choice of many pros and is the most widely used! and in my opinion the best!, a company will do very wel if they knock masuri of the top spot but i think its unlikely!

Ahh i dont doubt that Masuri is currently the best on the market for me out of the ones i have tried on, I am a big fan of the Ayrtek concept, similar to American Football helmets. I may be looking at getting one n the near future especially if it is lighter!

All comments taken on board and thanks for leaving them, its interesting to find out what you as the end customer are swayed by in terms of buying trends. If Sangakkara/Vandort/Yuvraj/Ghambier were to wear it some people would want to buy it purely becasue its on his head whilst others may buy it due to it providing better safety and being lighter than the other models available.

Product placement on pros is a tricky one as some are contracted and some use what they deem the most comfortable to wear by personal preference. Can see where you're cpming from though Walshy getting the right person wearing it would drive sales in certain countries

You ought to try and get kp on board, then it would take off big time, as he clearly uses what he deems the most comfy, a blank masuri!

As soon as you get a young, well liked and talented person to use it then the brand will boom.

I must admit i preffer it to the normal lid you produce, can i ask how wide is the grill?  as i have big shoulders and have only found the Masuri grill narrow enough to avoid getting in the way....

Damo, our grills is a hybrid of the masuri version which incorporates features from it as well as new additions to make it unique to Ayrtek, the width of the helmet and therefore grille when attached is 21.5cm with a masuri helmet being 22cm in width and Albion at 21.5cm also.

Hope this helps!

your grilles are narrower than masuris - They don't look it lol - there is this guy on ebay selling an Ayrtek titanium grille for £30. I have been tempted a lot to buy one but didn't want to risk the width (i have slightly big shoulders - all muscle though!)

Yeah i put a few of ebay to widen our marketing scope, the grille obviously has to conform to the width of the helmet which works out to 0.5cm narrower than a masuri. Its the front of the grille that doesnt bulge as wide as the albion grille as well as we wanted it to look more sleek and narrow rather than rounder like the albion grills.
