Title: New bat making tools advice. Ray iles

Hi there, I have a handles cleft from red ink I'm gonn attempt to turn into a joker styled bat. Looking for tools, and many say buy 2nd hand.
So eBay I went. And found someone selling new gear by "Ray iles"

So went on google and found this

Anyone had experience with these tools? Quality? Years use out of them etc?

Be easier to buy a few at once for one delivery, than spend weeks scowering eBay and paying several lots postage on unkown items?

Or is old really best?

My main draw knife is a ray illes/ mike abbott. Can't complain, sharpens up well and feels comfortable in the hands

Why are you planning on buying so many if its your first go?

Surely its better to get a second hand one on ebay, sharpen it up and flog it on when you are ready to upgrade?
Unless budget is not an issue, then it's irrelevent.

On reading various threads, there is more than one tool needed to make a cricket bat. I don't plan on buying several of one tool. But merely 3 pr 4 seperate tools.


The prices seems well, and the older ones one ebay seem to go for a similar price, some with high postage costs.


Budget is not at discussion here, the quality of Ray iles tools is, and john at red ink seems pleased.

Hunt around on Ebay and junk shops. They may need a lot of prep but quite often the steel is better quality than cheap modern stuff. Especially look out for Sheffield stamped on the blades.

Ive got an Ochsenkopf , its ok, but the blade is very thick. I think a Ri would be better.
