This is intriguing...

He's a great fielder, and adds as a bowling option on log hot days.
He needs to improve his batting, but if he can add consistency to his defensive Side, is he really a bad option at 6?
-
I always wondered how he hadn't had a chance but if he doesn't play much first class cricket he's not going to get a chance anytime soon if you ask me.
As per some of the comments on cricinfo, maybe a season or two playing county cricket could really help him
-
IMHO he does not have the temperament to play test cricket. He needs a lot of FC cricket
-
he's in a tricky position in that he has to convince that he is one of the best six batsmen as his bolwing is nowhere near the standard.
-
I always thought he should be in their test side as they are not exactly blessed with batting alrounders. I reckon he would get in Englands Test and ODI side at the moment ?
-
He is definitely not a Test level all rounder...his bowling is only good for limited overs cricket.
-
That does not mean he wouldn't get in the England side :)
Would you rather have stokes than Pollard ?

Yes. I would.
I'd also rather have Bresnan and Broad than Pollard.
Pollard is about as good as Luke Wright.
-
Look at stokes and pollards first class batting records, nothing much in it. Stokes is a better bowler for sure but Pollard batting record in ODI's is better with 3 hundreds.
Pollard is still only 26 but something cant be quite right if he cant get a game for the windies.
-
Stokes, Broad and Bresnan are proper bowlers..I dont rate Pollard's bowling at all. He can only get into the test team as a batsman..he needs to prove himself to get in. He shud play a season of county and perform..Sammy is a better all round option than Pollard.
-
I would agree with Broad for sure, no comparison there although the way he was backing away in the test matches was embarrassing, so he needs to start chipping in again with runs when the are needed, not just slogging a few when the game is over. Bresnan from 3 or 4 years ago yes, now just looks soooooooo ordinary its unbelievable that he is still playing international cricket.
I guess you are right he needs a season playing county cricket although not sure many countries pay too much notice to that. Problem is he is such a hot property in t20 that that is never going to happen anyway.
-
Pollard's batting may not even be suited to Test cricket remember - two of his three ODI hundreds were slog fests!
-
I don't think he played enough first class cricket. But his avg of 38.5 comes at a below hundred strike rate.
That average is only 1 run behind Doolan, and above marsh who have been chosen to represent Australia on the next upcoming tour.
Has anyone seen pollard bat in a 4day game?(I haven't) he may well change his game for it.
But the ability to step it up and go at a fast rate at 6(ala gilchrist with his 58ball ton) could be a game changer in the right situation in tests.
As many have said, he should have a year at county level/shield level and show he really is willing to put the effort in to be picked,
-
Just finished watching recently NZ v WI, chose painting the house in the Aussie heat instead, standard very low in comparison to Aust, SA, England and India. Think there's more to it then ability as to why he is not getting a game. Great value watching him
in the BB.

How many more ODI's has Pollard played compared to Stokes?
Unfair to compare their two records at this early stage of Stokes's career. Pollard doesnt even come close to the ability of Stokes.
-
Brilliant contradiction in one sentence. Don't compare them and then compares their ability.
-
really?
I dont think so

I noticed that too.
Pollard is a rare talent, but he must have rubbed someone the wrong way in the Windies admin.
-
how can people champion Jos Butler for the England Test team but then say Pollard should not get a crack at test cricket?
given the way he can turn a short form game around he must have the mental strength to do it.
as for technique, he has enough shots and a block and a leave isn't hard to adapt to!
to say that Stokes is more talented is a funny statement really, talent is about hard work and practice, both players work hard, Pollard just looks cool when he does it.
personally I would love to see Kieron Pollard in the test arena. Actually I would love to see the West Indies play more test cricket.
but that is a different conversation
-
indeed - I fear that Test cricket is going to become increasingly a game played for the "big three" plus SOuth Africa and PAkistan when anyone will deign to play against them. :(
