I was tapping up bats today and came across this bat with and area on the face which sounds like its a thin sheet of wood with a gap behind it. It does not go as far as the edges and is only the size of a ball
Is this bat useless or can it be fixed etc. Never seen this before

The problem is easily solved. Just put it on ebay. ;)

Put a mallet on it or bounce a ball on it first. Can't tell that much just by tapping it?!

More than likely to be delamination - I have a bat just like it and it's getting repaired as I write.
But Paul is right, tap it a bit with a mallet to get a more obvious sound. Don't have to tap it too hard to get an obvious sounds difference.

I am pretty confident the bat is delaminated, I have 1 such bat :-[

Sounds very similar to mine.
When I called the bat maker he recommended a repair before it became to bad.

Yes, this is delaminated.
