Title: Stretton fox my second idea-shorts
Post by: smilley792 on January 28, 2014, 12:00:53 PM
Hi, here I am with a new idea. One I may be attempting to do with a pair of old compression shorts to test the idea.

Obviously your systems are bespoke, and this would be a bespoke option.but make some shorts to suit the pads.

I'm contemplating getting my old compression shorts, and modifying them to fit my strettons. Unsure how yet.

I may attempt to sew some pockets inside to place the guards in.

Or

For better adjustments, sew some Velcro into the inside of the shorts, so that the strettons can be adjusted once in there for perfect fit, and not creep about,

Or both,

Anyone tried this? And any ideas, pointers and help before I start. Or reasons why it wouldn't work? Cheers

If you get your pads fitting you perfectly, the a pair of compression shorts over the top should hold them in place anyway I would think.

Sounds like a great idea.
Compression shorts with a pouch for a box AND Strettons velcro'd inside (or how about outside for easier adjustments) would be on my list. :D

I did think outside  originally, but my stretton fox inner material is not Velcro, so I'd have to add it to the strettons, where as the outside already is Velcro for the straps. So some well positioned Velcro inside a decent set off compression shorts should hold them well.

Maybe take this idea to SF, that way it can be tried out both inside and outside to see what works best. Easy for them to put the velcro on the inside of the pad instead of the outside.

Good idea! Pretty sure it'd work better inside the compression shorts though, if it was on the outside then wouldn't it rub against the trousers and potentially move out of place? (unless you had some pretty strong velcro!)

Why not try som Velcro on the outside of the shorts an on the inside of the pad then fit together whilst wearing the shorts, if it not right  try again and again until in the right position

Hi Everyone !

Great Idea about the shorts, two quick thoughts...
- If you have a good pair of actual compression shorts rather than just elastic ones pads should hold pretty good in place even without velcro lining them to help hold into position.
- I'm good friends with 010Gear and these work really well especially with the box pocket on the front, I could have a chat with him and see if we can do a run of special velcro lined ones ?

Cheers )

the issue with Velcro lining is that the hooks will be pretty scratchy so you would only be able to wear the shorts with the lining - you would have to take them off when you started fielding. This would be a pain for nets etc.

They'd have to be strategically placed bit dog Velcro as opposed to full inside so they don't chaff when batting to.

Most will take them off between innings. But as buzz said  for those that just leave them on during nets it could be an issue.

I have some quote tight compression shorts, and although I just tried it in my hallway, they did seem to move, particularly the inner thigh guard.

thanks smilley ) good point, one thought about the scratchyness, I can get qualitites of (sorry for the terminology) "Baby Velcro" which is soft as cotton yet sticks like ** to a blanket ! Perhaps some small considered patches at key points like on the seams and centre might work as these are designed for newborn kid suits so they have to be very soft. I know some people have baby soft skin so this should be ok ;) !

Looks like somethings building here!!

Sounds like a plan mr fox.

Again as with batting covers, I'm happy to pay for and test some prototypes.

I'll be up for a set of 010Gear's with Fox's velcro'd on the outside as it's easier to take them off.
I might be able to meet somewhere for a fitting as a test guinea pig. :D

I have a pair of 010's and strettons are on the wish list, could be a brilliant match up.

Instead of velcro why not a compression shorts with pockets for thigh pads to fit in? They already exist although not the best design or quality in most cases but thats where the oppertunity is to improve something...would avoid the whole scratchyness issue, even with baby velcro, if you have hairy legs/thighs it can cause irritation...

Or better yet compression shorts with velcro pockets on the outside, so you can put the pad in or remove it quickly, then close the flap/pocket again and it doesn't rub againts the trouser?

Got a set of 010 Gears now and I think a stretch pocket might be the way to go. I have concerns over stitching velcro strips to such stretchy material.
