Title: New kit bag needed.any suggestions?
Post by: Northern monkey on February 02, 2014, 08:44:17 PM
Evening guys

I need a kit bag for my son.

We have both used kookaburra bags, but they seem to drop in bits after less than a seasons use.

I like the slazenger bags, but it features a 3 bat carrier underneath which I feel leaves the bats a little exposed?

Basically,it needs to be top top quality,I'm not buying him another, traditional style,(not a duffle type)
I have no brand favourites particularly and am open to recommendations

Cheers guys

So you don't want a bat carrier?

As I'd have said the salix all kit. An awesome bag, but there is a bat cave, but I presume it's padded.

I also recommend the aero maxi bag. Very high quality, lots of space. Minimal design.

And I agree, kook bags are shocking.

The new red ink kit bag is worth a look. Pics will be posted in the next couple of days. It has 2 seperate padded bat pockets rather than the bat tunnel.

Pm me if interested and I can give you some more details

That is pretty impressive.

Loads of room for kit and gear. Not sure how popular you will be in the changing room though!

I'm just thinking back, how most of the bags I've had, have either dropped in bits or been not really upto the job?

And I've had most of the big name brands? Maybe that's where I've been going wrong?

Kook gm and slazenger have all been awful and disentegrated within a year for me.

My b3 duffle has done a decent job and still looks new, which shocked me as they are made at the same place as gm. Lol. And is why I didn't buy there big bag,

My aero maxi feels high quality but it's less than a month old. So not a real test lol.

I've had a ca 10000000000 since October, been taking to nets and stuff, and it's still looks new, my gm/kook looked battered after one Saturday.
Atleast the slazenger lasted 3month before a zip broke

I have a non cricket ouma bag which is 15years old, took it to football, cricket tours, work away bag, and hospital bag. It finally failed(plastic buckle snapped) about toe weeks ago, very impressed, if only they'd havea decent range of cricket bags.

The bags I was going to recommend have bat caves, so how about the Newbery Tour instead? There is a video review in the thumbnail on this product page: http://www.itsjustcricket.co.uk/cricket-bags-bat-covers-c3/newbery-tour-stand-up-cricket-bag-p360 (http://www.itsjustcricket.co.uk/cricket-bags-bat-covers-c3/newbery-tour-stand-up-cricket-bag-p360)

Definitely high build quality and looks stunning too.  More than enough room for any cricketer!  :)

We locked our wicket keeper in mine last season. Hes 5ft6 and he easily had enough air for an hour or two! :D

The Kookaburra bags for 2014 have been greatly improved and the Pro Combi, I think is an excellent bag and its available in 2 colour options.

Interesting that you don't like the salix bats due to the bat cave. They certainly last longer than most others I've had.

It's just the fact that,I know bags get stood on in changing rooms.
I like the idea of space usage, but unless the bags stood up, there's a chance of some muppet, standing on the bag.

I know it's a negative thought, but I have stud marks in a few bats.

In fact, the more I think about it,, having your most important bit of kit underneath the bag? Is a major mistake

To be honest, unless a bag is stood vertically, any form of bat pocket runs the risk of being stood on, whether under or at the side. If you are concerned about this, you maybe better carrying your bats separately.

I always take my bats out of my bag when I get to the changing room and stand them up on the bench/on my seat. I also keep them in a padded bat cover...

I think the bat holder on the side,(padded) has got to be the better of two evils?

The size of bags now, and the amount of kit we carry, means most changing rooms are pretty crowded places

This year my bats will also be in padded bat covers
