Title: GM bats - F2, F4.5 and F7
Post by: i12breakfree on February 07, 2014, 12:29:05 PM
Can someone please post pictures of GM F2, F4.5 and F7 in stock bats showing the difference among the three. Like an Argon F2, F4.5 and F7 .
My friend received a bat from a UK retailer . He ordered GM Argon 808 F2 but the bat stickers only says Argon in the front. Does that mean its a 2013 bat and not a 2014 bat ?

Argon is only available in f2 and f7. Not in f4.5

The bats on gms site say f2 on the front of the f2,but just argon not he from of the f7

Just by look you can tell if it's an f2 or f7, the f7 is very very flat faced with squared edges.
The f7, is traditionally round.

Also I'm not aware that gm have changed the argon from last year, as far as I'm aware, they are the same.

The Argon 2013 and 2014 models are the same and available in the F2 and F7 versions.

The F2 will have a sticker on the side that says ARGON F2 as well as the front.

Thanks. So the F7 is the one without F7 in the stickers ? May be they have sent him an F7 as the edges were not that big for a 2-9 bat.

Edge sticker also denoted f2
But merely says argon on the f7

What shop was it purchased from? Could it be that they have no idea about the difference and merely just picked any argon off the shelf?

Yes thats right. If it was an F2 then it should have the F2 stickers, but also the main thing is the very flat face on the F2 model and rather more square edged feel.

Can you please post pictures of the two bats of you have them in stock?

Haha this is confusion that the bizarre GM bat faces will always cause.  I mentioned this to Ed Lowy, the GM MD, on here, but the disagreed with me and thought I was wrong.  Funny thing is, quite a few people agree with me, and threads like this are a major reason why! What is available and in what face - you need a scorecard to keep up!

well I don't think it is all that complex. the bats usually have a sticker on saying what it is.

the difference between a flat face and a curved face is clear, especially on the edges.

The retailer from whom the bat was bought acknowledged that it was a mistake on their part and will be shipping the F2 bat next week.
Thanks everyone .
I got the pics from VKS . F2 bats have F2 on frond and edge stickers. F4.5 is there on front stickers (not sure about edges), the remaining pics were of bats with no F# next to then. So those must be F7 or original shape as they say.

I like that GM provide an option for customers who want the choice, they could have just named it simpler for us thick folks Flat face, Round face and something in the middle of flat and round... :D

Not sure threads like this would exist if everyone found it as simple as you, Buzz.  I know it's not the most complicated thing, but it still makes people scratch their heads, and I still can't get my head round why there needs to be any head scratching in the first place - just keep it simple!!  :)

I think it's neat that they offer so many options. But it's a balls up not to label them all up properly. Pretty simple really and would eliminate this type of situation occurring...

Agreed
Have the sticker with F2/F4.5/F7 in there
What's the point in not putting F7 in the stickers of F7 bats? Were they cost cutting and using last year's stickers ...lol

How are the GM handles this year? Nobody I know uses a GM so haven't had the opportunity to even see one in the flesh yet let alone get my hands on one! Last time I saw a GM it was an Octane 808 in the Edgbaston shop, unfortunately I wasn't impressed as the handle was way too thin and the bat had a pick up like a sledge hammer. Needless to say I've not been inspired to get my hands on one since - although since our Ashes hammering I'm feeling an increased patriotism that makes me want to move away from the antipodean mascot that is Kookaburra and move to a home grown brand!

The octane I used sporadically last year had a really thin handle on, so thin I put another on as it was annoying, even though it wasn't my bat.
The owner kept the extra grip on, and actually doubled his average for ther est of the year.

But, my purist and six6 I've purchased the handles are what I'd consider normal?

Handle is thin. Round at top and slight oval at bottom

Personally I like thin handles.

Here are the pics

I must admit that of all the GM bats I do like the purist - it looks like a forgiving bat with what I'd guess is a massive sweet spot!

I bought the six6 as a match bat(it's an original) and the purist as a back up(it's a 606).

Although the purist is a tad lighter on dead weight, the six6 feels lighter on pick up. Not sure if that's the effect of concaving, sharper spine on the six6, over the not on ounce of concaving and chunky back of the purist.

The purist does seem to have a longer middle though, it starts lower on the bat, and seems to go as high as the six6s middle.

All this is through mallet and bouncing a ball, I've not had chance to net with either yet unfortunately.

That Six looks better in the flesh than it does in the catalogue! Having had a good browse through the GM website I've got a soft spot for the Icon f4.5.....May be an 808 although I'm currently resisting after my Puma purchase.......
