Hey Guys,
I saw the E41 Oblivion on pro direct cricket
http://www.prodirectcricket.com/Products/GrayNicolls-Oblivion-LE-Cricket-Bat-Short-Handle-Cricket-Bats-BlackSilver-71874.aspx (http://www.prodirectcricket.com/Products/GrayNicolls-Oblivion-LE-Cricket-Bat-Short-Handle-Cricket-Bats-BlackSilver-71874.aspx)
I wanted to know your thoughts in whethe to buy or not and also why there selling them so cheap!
Thanks
-
Because they are a strange company that like making a loss on their cricket bats!!!
-
They buy in bulk.
Sell what they can,
Then slap stupid discounts to clear the shelves
-
Ah, so it's a good choice to buy one of their bats?
-
At that money why not buy it and if it's a pup send it back for a refund.
What's to lose? (other than some shipping).

I live in Australia so shipping will be extra :'(

They may not have it in stock. Or there may be some other issues. I have never ordered from Pro Direct in my life, so I have no personal experience of their service, but I have heard that many other people have had issues with them. Their reputation isn't the best to say the least!

Do you know some of the issues?

Do you know some of the issues?
You order items that either don't turn up at all or they arrive several months after the order.
Customer service don't reply to emails chasing said items.
-
Ah, ok. But is there anything wrong with the product?
-
£200 for a bat bought online for a big discount....hmm..risky proposition imo..you stand a better chance of finding an awesome 5* from a reliable seller..i wouldnt think twice about buying softs but not bats..
-
I ordered a half price albion 98 mate came next day I issues.
Your not going to see any pictures of what your getting a bit pot luck really mate .
They are a proper company though

Yeah I guess but there limited editions
-
Make a judgment call then bud to be honest buying anything even a picture of a bat is a gamble
Potential bargain no doubt
-
Well Said, thanks for your help guys
-
There's nothing wrong with the products mate, you just can't guarantee you'll ever get what you ordered.
I've only ordered softs and they took 4 months to arrive (but they were a decent price and i'm currently using them)
-
G Cricket
Aren't these $425 at GC's (if you live near one of the shops) v $370 sight unseen?
The UK has got a great range of custom bats you might want to consider.
Cheers
Mark

Buying discounted softs from pro direct has never been an issue
With a bat it's gamble
You may get a decent bat but then you are not sure about what weight you will get
You can assume that all Gray Nicolls LE bats will be good :)
-
I've ordered soft and bats.
soft no issues.
the bat that arrived, no issue. weight is a lottery as is looks. but if your ordering a gn le. you are going to get a bat gn graded as l.e
the bat that didn't arrive said in an email it would come when stock was next in
i phoned up and ask when this was. the said unknown. so i asked if a could cancel. they said yes.
problem solved.
the ones that have delivery issues in terms of months are ones that do not phone up for a status update and just leave it.

I'll argue about the not phoning up bit, I did and they genuinely didn't have the product for months! I was refunded the postage as compensation (every little helps)
All turned out fine in the end though.

Manage to get some great bargains from pro direct. Never had to wait for softs, always arrived within a day or two. Only once had to wait for a bat and that was when they did the GN scoop for £79.99 just after it was released. It came 1-2 months later.
-
if they don't get new stock for months and you want that item it will be month regardless.
but yours story wasn't my point.
someone on here claimed they and been waiting 8 months for gm gloves from pdc, i asked if they had contact them for update or order cancellation and they said no, as they couldnt be bothered.
which i found a tad strange.
-
And to add to that, I've never had any issues with returning goods. Usually refunded within a week.
-
Just order one in light will post a review

Pdc in general adhere to UK distance selling rules, so aren't hard to deal with. Stock is far more regularly the problem.
-
I have three bats from them. No issues really and i live in Canada. Weights were fine too.
I think they have stopped offering the, i forgot it used to say, "available for dispatch later or backorder something".
Rather now it just says "Available for immediate dispatch" which i reckon they actually have bats in stock.
But beware custom fees outside of UK may be quite high!

Does anyone know what the LE is in Australian bats e.g 1000le or 750i or whatever?
-
Never, ever had a problem with pro direct cricket, running and football. Used them for years, always fast delivery, always email alerts.
ordered a puma pro 6000 from them, delivered within 3 days. No harm in calling to check stock...

I would say the English LE is the equivalent of the Australian 1000LE
-
In terms of the product itself, the bat certainly won't be hand-picked. I know that doesn't matter to everyone on here, but when I have been to Gray-Nicolls, I have seen some LE bats that look worse than some 5 Stars, with blemishes and only 7 grains (not straight) etc. I suspect these are the types of bats that make their way to the PDC shelves, and the fact that they are discounting it so heavily suggests to me that they have struggled to shift it, which I feel further supports this view...
-
Ive ordered from pro direct a couple of times, couple of things to bear in mind:
The weight wont be spot on, its light medium or heavy,if you dont like the bat you cab send it back-they have a quick refund policy with no quibbles.
If its a specific bat you want to order-phone them, ask if its actually in stock first...dont be lazy you are getting a huge discount most retailers/forum sponsors wont do for you.
Its a bit of a gamble but can be worth it-and you can return no questions asked
I sometimes think pro direct get a slightly bad press on this forum
And no i dont work for them or have any personal interest
Ive ordered ftom them before, kept one bat returned the other

Pdc offer some amazing prices. People generally only complain when something isn't quite right. I've mostly had good experiences with them, and saved loads.

I'll echo this mate I have bought probably 10 or so bats through the years from PDC and only had one bad one. At the end of the day it's an LE for £200 and you can send back if not happy .
Those that need to make a living from there shops will not like what PDC do as they buy in bulk and can basically afford to sell at cost or even a small loss at times. Just means you as the customer tend to get a great deal. No risks really. Pay on a credit card and you have zero risk at all as your credit card provider will cover you for any issues on your purchase should it not arrive etc.
-
I've given it a whirl - we'll see what turns up!
-
As far as I'm aware, the cricket side of Pro-Direct is a loss leader for their football shop, where they make their real money and put more effort in, hence the lower prices on bats like this...
-
Not sure whether to be pleased or not...
Picks up OK, not used to the lower middled profile but with an extra grip would be fine. Nice weight for the size I think. 2.9 1/2 dead on.
Quite a few grains but expected a cleaner face to be honest. It's also got a bit of a dent on the back.
Haven't tapped it up yet, will give it a whirl later.

doesn't look very LE to me, but on the other hand may go like stink! let us know !
-
If it wasn't for the outside edge(right handed) than I'd be happy, it just looks ugly with the randomly erratic dark bit.
-
I'd be disappointed
-
The face doesn't look like its finished too well. Nice shape tho.
-
Finishing is fine - pics never quite catch it. I think the face is about 3/4s fine!
-
Decent bat for the money. Hope it hits nicely. Think its very much pot luck with pdc. No favouritism shown.
think the l e tag or grade 1++ etc is getting saturated
-
Prodirect discount until weekend, oblivion e42 le 174.99, what is wrong with them
-

Just saw this on twitter, looks a good deal and you've got until Monday to decide

Quote from the PDC website :
LIMITED EDITION
Limited to the best 5% of the willow tree. All white willow, straight grains and a clean hitting area, optimum strike performance, clean strike zone and even grain.
Interestingly, this information cannot be found on the Gray Nicolls website. Given the wide range of grades and prices of their bats per model, there is no guidance at all as to what differentiates these.
-
It is undoubtedly a good deal for this time of the year.
I have bought a number of bats blind on line from a range of UK sources.
It is more a case on the credibility of the grading by the manufacturer than the retailer.
In my experience Kookaburra are the most consistent or most likely to provide a pleasant surprise.
With the hand-picking that goes on, no doubt for the makers that permit this (including GN) there is more likelihood of the residual stock being sold off like this.
I did buy a GN Powerbow Strauss LE last year from Sports Direct for £150, somewhat of a gamble and was extremely pleased with it. So there are bargains out there.
-
Well I've just ordered one of there this morning. In my eyes it's a great deal so why not. Gray Nics only put decent bits of willow into the LEs so it's not going to be a dud. If you don't like it, send it back or sell it off.
I've also bought from them before and didn't have a problem.
-
i guess they sold out of it, that was quick, should have gone for it..... damn
-
Was going to add to my earlier post that there are bargains out there ....with some luck and optimum timing.
The Powerbow Strauss LE I mentioned was further reduced from 200 to 150. I nearly bought one at 200 but didn't press the very last button to do so.
Agree that at 175 really can't go too far wrong if that model is desired rather than pure bargain hunting.
-
Mines due to be delivered tomorrow apparently.... Pretty quick service. Will post some photos for you all
