iv heard there are new bats coming out, but what about soft goods?
any pictures of new bats, softs, keeper stuff would be apprecaited
cheers
-
The ne Newbery's are the Krakatoa and the the Thruxton 100, no pics leaked yet........
-
Who will be the first to get pictures of the bats, any guess?
-
The stickers didn't really interest me so didn't even try for a catalogue or photos. Just looks like standard Newbery kit. Pads are a little different, red inside if I recall correctly.
-
how about gloves tom?
-
I hear the new profile is currently in use by hald of the SL and Indian team.. I might be getting a prototype/sample bat from a distributor in Canada in early-mid Nov..
-
The profiles are indeed player based and I like them both but not the names or graphics. Only new softs are lower range B52 Pads and Gloves.
-
Got the 2010 catalouge thru today and the stuff looks really nice.
4 new bats - thruxton and krakatoa and the chic witch is a womens one. and a b52 XL
new test pads and gloves and county pads and gloves
and b52 5* pads and gloves what look crap
-
can you scan some pics, are the sps pads the same?
-
how you get hold of catalogue?
-
can scan them as i dont have a scanner with my laptop and yh the sps's are exactly the same carl.
and i emailed newbery and they sent me one out tommo
-
ive seen the chic at lords, in a youth size, wood wise it was the best bat there!
-
Newbery have updated their website with the new gear. website looks great to me. But stuff getting a samey.
www.newbery.co.uk (http://www.newbery.co.uk)
-
Cant see any new gear on there mate...
-
Solid show but nothing inspiring or exciting going on which catches my interest. Have stagnated a bit in terms of softs and bat designs imo.
-
Have the all white sps pads changed at all?
-
Agreed, but quality is still decent - i havnt seen the purple gloves and pads before - Murray goodwin related perhaps? SPS pads i believe are unchanged.
Any news on the new mongoose softs tom?
And thank god they updated their website, it's been a long time coming!
-
Wouldn't expect anything magical in way of Mongoose softs for 2010 SillyShilly.
-
The KRAKATOA bat seems amazing.. Love the profile..
Whats the Diamond toe finish on the Thruxton bats??
-
seriously I can not see any new kit on the Newbery website..........can someone post pics please
-
The new profiles look very nice but the stickers arent as classy as normal!
-
I cant see anything either!
-
Try http://3bhosting.com/~newberyc/ (http://3bhosting.com/~newberyc/)
-
Nice one tom
-
Once again Tom you have proved extremely helpful. thanks for the link mate
-
Personally i preffer the Thruxton.........Thruxton is a motor racing circuit hence the chequered flag......
-
I say no to the logo, excuse my languauge here but John Newbery was the best bat maker ever to have lived thus far and to f-ing well change the logo is tantamount to sacrilege.... The guy who owns it now must be an absolute loon with no sense of tradition or respect to John and the brand he built
-
Agree with you here - awful logo, ditching their heritage like this could prove costly.
-
Sorry I think it's the right move, Newbery needs freshening up and an update of their branding. Imagine if Mercedes-Benz had stuck with the same logo as they had in 1909 out of respect to Karl Benz. Companies have to move on to fit in with the times, I really like the new logo and think it sticks to the traditions of Newbery whilst just jazzing it up that little bit.
Newbery could have been continued to be run the way it was but I believe they needed the new owners to push the brand forward and keep it alive. Evolution with the brand will allow it to live on longer with John's legacy still paramount to the success.
-
I agree with parts of what you say tom - but i believe they could have spent a little longer on this specific logo - i think the N is somewhat lost in the stripes, but this is the beauty of change - some like, some don't care and some hate - at least it gets people talking....
-
Tom sorry but i just dont agree.. The symbol for Mercedes has been around for years and is instantly recognisable from the 3 prong star, it was part of the original makeup of the company and has not changed for 80 years. You hear the Intel jingle after every ad so it is etched on your mind and that jingle is hardly ever changed.
The newbery logo to me meant quality a seal of approval... to change it to the N with stripes, you will double take. Is that a Newbery or a copy?
As for the running of Newbery and pushing it forward... Are you suggesting the logo will do this? Newbery haven't signed anybody new up to use there bats, there has been no big fanfare within Newbery for godsake and the newest thing that has happened is that the logo as has been leaked onto a forum from a test website
Hardly trying there best to gain a greater market share or drive the company forward, they are still living on the old name and they should respect that.
-
The new Newbery logo relates closely enough to the last 10 years Newbery stickers and design so people will be able to see what it is. The old logo looks far too old fashioned and in a time when Junior bats occupy such a huge market share is it a good idea to have a logo which looks old fashioned? Salix for me have been ahead for the last couple of years in marketing despite being in a very similar market to Newbery, I think Newb have to follow their lead now.
A logo gives the feel and ambience of the brand, the rest of the brand follows it and designs should incorporate it. So yes I feel a change in logo will push Newbery forward in the 21st century.
Pepsi is a great example of a company who have changed their logo to reach out to the right market and they're still living on the Pepsi name.
-
and there I will leave it Tom I reckon.. we'll agree to disagree on this one... otherwise we'll be here untill the cows come home
-
I had to google the logo.. fyi benz logo changed quite a bit in the earlier years, but as the company grew/merged the logo changed along with it..

The new logo isn't that radical yet it also implies something new.. I like it.. I don't see the need for Newbery to spend money on signing new players as far as I know they probably have the highest amount of bats being used by professionals.. Plus anyone who knows anything about cricket gear knows Newbery is elite.. A little kid in Afghanistan has never been to Disney Land or watched cartoons on tv but I'm sure he knows Mickey Mouse the name.. Not how he looks... Newbery the name carries more weight than the logo is my point..
-
They havent even put the new logo on the new bats as far as i can see
-
I think the Thurxton bat looks a bit inspired from the GM ICON DMX (i might be wrong though)
Do not like the name Thurxton and the checkered flags are a definite no ... at least for me
btw, the new clint eastwood movie would make for a good bat name - Invictus (Latin word for unconquered)
-
SIlly, i have the purple pads there for murray goodwins benifit year. There basically the gt335 but purple and silver behind.
-
[yuks still for the logo!!]
Website live now... http://www.newbery.co.uk/ (http://www.newbery.co.uk/)
the Thruxton profile looks familiar

-
i really like the purple gt gloves, they going to be on sale??
-
The flag on that bat is repulsive!
-
i cant see any of it on the site
-
I like the look of all the new gear, looks a touch more modern.
-
The test series softs are very similar to Bradbury's players series.......
-
but surely not as good as the bradbury players?
-
No they are not mate but same colour scheme
-
purple gt gear can only be bought from the Newbery chalet shop.
