Need to fix my Redback again as the toe is pretty badly cracked (must be all the runs I scored this year ;))
I remember hearing how you can wrap string soaked in glue or something around the bat and when it dries it contracts pulling the bat together? If anyone has anymore info about this that would be great!
PS. This bat is just awesome hence why I keep repairing it even though its on its last legs! And for the record I scored 291 runs this year @ 16.32

Forget that, never heard of it, for the worst cases you can glue, pin and then wrap in cloth tape and seal with resin.
-
Hmm Ok strange, Im sure it was Norb who said this. Anyway ill post some pictures later.
Do you think you could reply to my PM?
-
Mike, didn't Ian Blackwell's Bradbury (the one with shoulder damage) that you once had have binding round the shoulder where a crack is?
-
Yes, and that was not tightened to my knowledge, just glued.
It is mainly used by Dan at Chase in my experience in my locality.
-
I think Leo means when it dries it automatically contracts. If you bind it tightly round when wet and glued the string will stretch, as it dries out it will tighten up.
A cotton based string would stretch a good amount when wet I'd imagine, as it does in clothes.
-
I prefer the dowel solution myself, if that does not fix it then time to buy buy.
-
The 'wet' string is normally used for fixing shoulder cracks. Like Tom said, you wet the string and wrap it as tightly as you can around the bat - depending on the size/length of the crack, id recomend at least 5-6 inches of the bat should be covered. As the string dries it contracts, squeezing even tighter. Some people also knock in some wedges under the string after its been applied to increase the pressure further.

Just peeled tape and scuff sheet off and its not good news, its looking terminal ;)
Pics coming up in 10 mins... looks like it might be one for hitfor6 or even Gary himself...

Worryingly this piece of wood just pulls out

Image of the toe, note crack at front where wood is now replaced and also crack on the back.

I want to keep this bat going, and its good for someone who is a bowler
-
my mate is in the same situation, he has a redback surefire, has had it for about 3 years now, has very similar damage to the toe but continues to use it because it absolutely flies! the ping seems to get better and better!
-
Is there a specific string i need? Or is common household string ok?
-
That is a must for cloth tape and resin.

Would that zinc oxide tape be any use as bat tape seems as its non stretch?
-
I don't know, GN and Salix love it so best ring them and ask them what they use.

I use that for my fingers, very thick stuff, maybe to solid for a bat ?
