Title: Your England T20 selection
Post by: joeljonno on March 14, 2014, 10:10:33 PM
Well, there has been a lot of comments recently about players not making the grade or being picked for the "good guy brigade" (which I do not really believe in personally).  Giles is a very good coach, England quality maybe not yet, but he is still a good coach.

How about picking your T20 squad of 15 or so players (no exact limits to make sure you can pick all you want).  You can pick anyone who is eligible for England as of today EXCEPT KEVIN PIETERSEN including having your first choice 11 in batting order.  You can pick injured players (Root, Stokes, etc.) if you want. You may want to comment on any "odd" picks.

Will be interesting to see who and why.

Kieswetter
Hales
Willey
Morgan
Bopara
Croft
Patel
Jordan
Mascarenhas
Briggs
Topley

In Bangladesh you're gunna need plenty of spin and pace off the bowlers and this team has certainly got it. Plenty of bowling options and they're all clever bowlers, none of this "hit the deck hard and hope it ends up in the fielders hand" malarkey. Plus there is plenty of batting and certainly plenty of big hitters for the last few overs.

1:Hales(was no.1 ranked t20 player and still our most devastating player on His day(minus kp)
2:Lumb(left wright combo)
3:buttler(no.1 attacking stumper imo)
4:root(more shots to move the fielders than any englishman(minus kp) and is turnjng j to a decent t20 spinner)
5:morgan(the man of reverse sweep)
6:bopara(king ravi)
7:willey(top t20 player of last flt20)
8: rashid(leg spin can bat
9: broad(guys a dick but our best bowler)
10:anderson(if it swings it swings)
11:finn(when he returns, bit of bounce and pace)

I actually found that quite hard. I dont want to be a selector. Lol

It's always easy to say who shouldn't be playing, but not always as easy to find a replacement who is better.

It's a tough decision but I've always rated Kieswetter in the shorter formats and certainly prefer to see him open the batting instead of Lumb!

Hales
Lumb
KP
Bedwetter
Morgan
Buttler
Patel
Bopara

Tredwell

That's what I'd take to Bangladesh. Stick another seamer in there as back up, take Ali as a spin replacement.. I'd take like wright as a bowling finisher and that's it..  I need to take anymore than that.

Oh, leave all the coaches at home and analysts.. If they've not done their jobs by now it's too late formthismtournamemt

I'm actually in shock that there are people that don't think Buttler is worth his place in the side?!  ???

I'm also surprised to see that people are dropping a T20 World Cup Winning opening batsman in Lumb.

Lumb (Destructive)
Hales (Steady Partner)
Bell (Anchor)
Morgan (Captain)
Buttler (Destructive)
Bopara (Finisher/Bowler)
Willey (Big Hitter/Bowler)
Napier (Big Hitter/Bowler)
Allenby (Finisher/Bowler)
Jordan (Big Hitter/Bowler)
Tredwell (Stogger)

Not necessarily the batting order below Bopara - something which can be adapted upon circumstances

I'm also surprised to see that people are dropping a T20 World Cup Winning opening batsman in Lumb.

He hardly pulled his weight in the side that won the world cup. He averaged less than 20 in that tournament and scored a mighty 2 runs in the final and that low level of performance has summed up his whole international T20 career. KP and Kieswetter are the ones who actually scored the bulk of the runs and guided us to winning that tournament. And yet somehow Lumb has managed to keep his place whilst the other two have been sent back to their counties..

I'd load it up with spin.

Carberry
Hales
Morgan
Buttler
Bopara
Borthwick
Patel
Rashid
Jordan
Briggs/Tredwell
Broad

I think it's particularly important to have lots of bowling options, as one or two of the spinners might be having a bad day, so you have to make sure you can fill the overs in. That and this team bats very low down, so it will help make up for the fragile top order.
