cricket direct do 40% RRP
Title: Re: Sponsorship/discount

40% off RRP sounds about right, baring in mind unless you play a decent standard to drive their sales they are basically just offering you a decent discount on the goods

it is probably better for smaller companies eg shark, bulldog to offer sponsorship as it gets there kit out there to be shown to other cricketers

Yeh vetting the people to sponsor is a difficult task though unless they have come on a recommendation or you know them otherwise there are plenty of people looking for free/heavily discounted kit
Title: Re: Sponsorship/discount
Post by: tommo256 on October 12, 2009, 09:21:39 PM
yeah too many people have the attitude of 'if i get a sposnosr makes me better player' to many people think of it like that rather than using the kit offered as a sign of what the company are giving back to you
Title: Re: Sponsorship/discount
Post by: Apple on October 12, 2009, 09:23:01 PM
i got all these offers, but I dont want to use there stuff, I try and buy what I think will be the best for me to use, which is why I think its good not go all with one brand, pik and choose from the best stuff
Title: Re: Sponsorship/discount
Post by: tommo256 on October 12, 2009, 09:24:34 PM
yah that is not bad depends on offer-if full sponosrship then.....but if discount like you say schoose from the companies you have got
Title: Re: Sponsorship/discount

Yeah some companies will specialise in being good at a particular product but not the full range of kit. Having matching kit doesnt make you a better player but picking the best option in each field e.g. best brand of bat, gloves, pads, helmet etc may improve your game as well as protect you better in the long run.

GN etc will do 40% off RRP as it means they make more than a usual retail sale whilst usually selling a full range of kit.

GN claim to be able to make a Pro Performance bat for £35 tops so who thinks they are special getting to pay £160 for it?

Price them up to knock em down and paint the picture of a heavy discount!!

It is true that it is a discount but who would not want to offer kids with cash and desperate to look cool by boasting of being sponsored some kit for serious profit, hence the phrase "Candy from a baby".

The majority of companies are bad at giving out discounts and still charging high amounts for bats. I wouldn't just single out GN for it.

I remember being 14 though and getting excited as I'd been offered a package deal by Newbery and Stac haha!

I used to offer Stac discounts to junior players....

You are right, it is a product in demand and brands enjoy the loyalty factor.

Perhaps i shud reconsider the emails weve had...could take a while to go through them all 40% seems the standard then!

it is making younger children feel that they are better than others....false illustrating of their kit basically

I got a newbery package deal, would have cost me 950 quid.

you say it would have cost you £950 - how much did it cost?
Title: Re: Sponsorship/discount
Post by: tommo256 on October 13, 2009, 04:21:55 PM

Title: Re: Sponsorship/discount

Will be tough getting Bradbury to sponsor I would say. The only people I know personally who are sponsored, play West of England or for Somerset.

They make it look good by saying the kit would cost you £815 but it wouldn't really

Buy it from your local shop:
Bat C6+, £269
Pads SPS, £87
Gloves SPS, £54
Shirt C6+, £25
Trousers, C6+ £30
Tracksuit SPS, £60
Bag, SPS £54
Jumper C6+ £30
Sleeveless Jumper C6+, £25
Cap, £8
Socks, £6
Batting Shorts, £12
Thigh Pad, £8
Arm Guard, £8

And its closer to £600

You would get it under £500 from the Chalet.

In fact I will offer the following as a tester,

SPS bat,
SPS gloves,
SPS pads,
SPS bag,
SPS shirt,
SPS trousers,

£300

Any takers?
