Hi Guys, Slightly of the topic of cricket but I need help!!
I picked up a knock the weekend before last playing in goal fo my saturday team (football). There was considerable swelling at the time around the knee and a horrible dead leg. I went to A&E on Monday and was told that I have strained a ligament in my knee. The knee seems to have just reduced to a dull ache but the dead leg is still very painful. Does anyone have any tips on what to do to reduce this as I need to get it sorted before Saturday as we have a double header! Any help would be appreciated. I am open to any ideas.

I'd suggest you wouldn't play! I'm currently in and out of hospital with a torn ATFL in my ankle and ligaments are so painful to damage! I'd seriously just rest and don't risk hurting it again if it's still fragile

The only way to treat it fast is to get the blood flow going there. You need to go for thearupatic massage so that they can try and reduce the swelling. Besides you have to apply RICE Therapy (http://www.nwortho.com/help/rice_therapy (http://www.nwortho.com/help/rice_therapy)).
If you can get hold of moxa sticks for moxabustion, I can tell you the exact accupuncture point where you can apply the heat to improve the blood flow. This one will get you ready really fast.

glucosamine liquid gel is helpful for the ligament and the dead leg will get better when it feels like it, but you wont be fit for Sat.

Rest up mate, speaking as someone who has had extensive ligament damage and is now in month 8 of rehab it's north worth rushing back to quickly.... better to wait a couple fo weeks than potentially knacker yourself for 9 months.

Thanks for the advice so far guys, the knee feels fine now and I have a normal range of movement. The doctor said this is a sign of it being fixed as it was very minor. If I am hoest it was more a question of what to do with the dead leg. Maybe a massage? ???

I wouldn't massage it mate. Best thing for a dead leg is RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) the pain can take a while to go, even weeks depending on how serious it is, picked one up a couple of years back after some fat prop landed knee first on my thigh... hurt like a motherhubbard I tell ya.
