Title: New season motivation
Post by: Timbo on March 24, 2014, 01:39:50 PM
Is anyone else struggling to be bothered for cricket this year..? I haven't been fussed one bit and haven't been to any nets (mostly because of work). I'd rather just spend my weekends in a beer garden or watching with copius amounts of alcohol then playing

On the contrary, I can't wait to get out and play! I'll still consume copious amounts of alcohol in a beer garden, but that will just have to wait until after the game!

Now hasn't that set the alarm bells ringing... I think the prescription is some new willow...!

I guess I've got your motivation then because I'm stoked.

I'm annoyed at the nice weather we're having in March. The UK can only get so many sunny weekends a year. They can hold back till may-sept where they belong!

Tim, your bloody 3rd team skipper, you should be leading the troops! How is the team shaping up?

If your lucky, you could have me in your team by the end of the year, looking at jobs in Norfolk as we speak.

The way I always think of it is most things are enjoyable if you have goals.

If you are working and it feels to no actual end then you wont enjoy it as much as if you believe you're getting somewhere.

I start each season by setting a number of season goals, e.g. certain number of runs, playing in a certain team or even helping some youngsters progress.  My last couple of years have been an amalgamation of those three really.

This year, 500 league runs, getting a couple of games in the ones premier side and helping a couple of young spinners with game situations (best place to advise... behind the sticks).

Absolutely no motivation here.

I have not even been bothered to pick a bat or go to any nets (I just usually rock up at the first game these days and hope to get 30+)

I have been ill on and off since October so think this has taken it's toll, going in for a nose and throat operation next month. Once that's over I'm 2 months here then back to England.

Think I'll be well up for it once I return to England in the late summer.

I keep looking out of the window and wishing the season upon us.

Now netting twice a week and chomping at the bit.....grrrrrrr...

I can't put my finger on why, but I'm thinking it's because I never really kicked on last season and struggled with the bat. I really enjoyed keeping wicket on a Saturday but was opening on a Sunday with no real luck or conviction. Usually finding my self spending my Sunday afternoons fielding and not really doing alot as we won most games comfortably. Then waking up Monday morning wondering where my weekend had gone

Get yourself behind the stumps then mate. You are more than good enough to score runs as well at that level.

How is the 3rd team looking?

I am looking forward to the season.

Mainly due to the reason that I am now the 1's skipper. So that will be an enjoyable experience I am sure. Plus on paper we seem to have a good squad of players.

I am not as motivated has in previous seasons mainly due to injuries at the end of last season. Also offered  the 4Th team captaincy at another club but turned it down.

Can't wait for the season to start, every off season I train to be better than the previous season. I use the youngsters in the side to motivate me, I push to be quicker, fitter and score more runs than them, you need a goal to keep moving forward. I reckon by the time I'm 60 i'll be ready to turn pro  :)

My personal motivation is higher than ever. I've been counting down the days since the last game on the last day of sept :(

I've got my personal mission statements for this season:

2500 runs in total
700 saturday league runs
avg 50+ in the national Civil Service comp
Not to bowl a single ball this year
Not to give my wicket away to crappy bowlers after seeing off the good ones.

That's about it

My motivation for the club/clubs I play for is at an all time low though, too much politics, too many people trying to be the big I am and caring about what lvl it is etc. Just play cricket, make it fun, run the club for it's members and let the promotions, relegations take care of themselves.

My goals are

to bat through an entire innings (bonus points if its green/wet)
To not be bowled (unplayable jaffas exception to rule)
to get a ton.
To start bowling again.
take every catch.

Milestones
500 runs
Average better than last years 25.

My goals:

To perform with the bat to the effect it solidifys my place in the team.
Score a half century for the bank
Score a century for my Sunday village side.
Take over 20 catches
5 stumpings/to take each stumping cleanly.

My goal is to have fun and enjoy a season of being the 1's skipper. I'd much rather see others prosper and enjoy the beautiful game.

A good idea, to state your goals.

Here we go.

To play at least 4 times per month.
Not to get bowled leg stump.
To play my shots only.
Have fun!
Hit the ball much harder and with more conviction.
Continue my training regime (I can't believe how well that's going)
Take the most wickets for a spinner at my club.
Keep my Mr Angry head locked away.
Don't drive to home games.

That should do.

My only goal is to score the most runs in the Club throughout the season. I achieved it last year and this year I'd like to better it and score at least 100 more than the next highest scorer.

Playing seconds with a new club so my goal is to cement my place in top 5 on merit not by politics.

- not throwing wicket away
- keeping head down
- deal with bodyline and bouncers
- not blaming the gear for my own shortcomings [don't ban me for this, I will still be buying kit]
- get a ton

Bang on - nothing better than a few beers after the match!

i cant wait to start playing. we haven't had any nets yet and the first game is 5 weeks away :( i have been down the ground every week since the season starting carrying out all sorts of work, expanding the shed working on the mowers and alike, i'm the volunteer groundsman and have slowly seen the ground drying out enough to play on.

my goals

try and top the runs scored i have finished second to the same game for the last 4 seasons.
bring down my bowling average i was the leading wicket taker last year but had an awful average.
improve my fielding and actually try and take more catches then i drop.

Chomping at the bit here.

Was able to (read the wife was very understanding) play both Saturday and Sunday a few seasons ago. Doubt work and the words 'never again' from her will allow it this season.

are people's other halfs that demanding? surely they realise it's only a short time period really 9the cricket season)... they get to have you all winter!!

so glad my other half is perfectly accepting that I'm out doing cricket loads. Even when the baby arrives shes said I don't have to change.. winner.

My mrs is the same, ,she has really enjoyed coming to the games to watch

Hmm, my goals

30 wickets, and get my economy down
500 runs in Saturday cricket
Break some records in Devon cricket on Sundays,( some tiny boundaries!)

And most importantly , to play more games this year

That is the key, get the partners and family involved and along to games.

I gotta aim to be the highest scorer of runs again in gloucestershire, and to get higher again on play cricket :). Just nice to see really more than meaning anything.

My aim.

To get atleast 1 midweek century(last year was one of only 2 seasons I've ever failed to do that, and the other I avg 75)

Be fit enough to bowl again.

Do better with the bat in sat cricket.

That's going some!

My aim.

To get atleast 1 midweek century.

I am only playing a max of 14 games in a second string/developmental team in a 3rd division evening league team, I think I will be looking for one of these as well.

As two other teams in the same league also share our pitches, I will technically have nine home games to do it in.

I took all of last season off and it just happened to be the beat summer for a while :(

So this season I just want to bowl as many overs as possible and hit some important runs, that's it.
Oh a few stunning catches and some direct hit run outs would be nice.

Team goals are back-to-back promotions.

Personally, I'm looking to score 500 league runs and get 3 hundreds overall.

As I am finished as a bowler due to knee injury last season I will attempt to bat as long as possible and not give my wicket away so often   as I have done previously to give teammates the opportunity to have a bat.

It's strange for me that I had trouble sighting the ball while fielding last week. Our season is still a month away but this is the first time I felt it.I hope once the season is close and serious cricket is played I'd be ready. I want to get that best fielder award back...!!

Well You lot are a right bag of laughs!

I am counting down to sleeps to play low league muppet cricket..... Though the first play top league decent standard cricket (I may get a game or 3!)

Having just missed out on promotion last year we have made a couple of additions and our special one has now got leave to play 90% of fixtures.

This can only lead to our success!

Come on guys lets get some positive notes going on!

I personally can't wait for the start of the season, however ask me on Thursday before the first Saturday and people are dropping out for whatever reason and I need to find 2 more on Saturday morning. It may be a different answer.

Is it sad that I was happy to get the roller out and get sat on it for a couple of hours this week?

I am very excited for this season as I've acquired about three new bats along with a brand new SG kit and can't wait to try them out in a match. Have been getting together with a few buddies for nets for past 6 weeks or so.

There is a crate of beer riding on me getting my first 50 or my first 5 wickets (on a Saturday).

Best so far is 41 runs and 5 wickets for 14 against from 5 but they were with other teams.

Getting close now and getting excited......

I will play 16 games this year weather pending...

Target is:

320 runs
20 victims

promotion is a must of we will lose players to slightly better standard!
