This was a pleasant surprise, and along with the arrival of our Lords tickets for the Sri Lanka test, has made for a great start to the week!

It's for one of our favourite forum members :)

Do you guys get to visit Hunts often? You're only just down the road if I'm thinking right! Seriously awesome grains there. Guessing it has a hefty price tag for it as well ;)

We go very often, it averages out to about once a week. Not as hefty as you would imagine ;)

Which day are you going to the sri lanka test Jake?

The 1st day I believe, but I'll check. Are you going?

This is a Hunts custom for the cat. We sell G1 (which this is) customs for 165 pounds. Normally they come blank but i managed to get these lovely stickers for Brucie.

We had a very nice one done for charliemott recently too. I'm sure he will share pictures when he can.

Amazing looking bat, amazing value for money. Hunts are great sticks, they are local to me and I'm amazed they are discussed so little on here and in general such low profile. They don't advertise much or sponsor player's and their graphics aren't amazingly stylish, but their bats ping fantastic. 165 quid! You would think people would be queuing out the doors! Seen so many worse bats that cost double

If you go to Hunts direct you will pay rrp for it, which is just over £200 I think. Still a good price, but not as good as ours ;)

Tony will shape you a bat in front of your eyes for no extra cost. It's great watching old techniques from a skilled tradesman - he makes full use of a wicket keeper glove that I've never seen before or even attempt to myself

For £165?

I was there for other reasons and not to have a bat made in front of me. Wouldn't have a clue what Tony would charge for this, he just mentioned Easter was a busy time for this and that they don't charge an extra fee to have the bat shaped in front of you

This guy has made bats for some of the greats. Like I said before, why are hands not being bitten off?

I picked up a bat that was made for Freddie which was a mentally light piece of willow. Martin Van Jaarsveld's and current England captain (women's)

County are a hidden gem in my book and people should broaden their horizons. I don't think you can get a custom made bat cheaper by one of the best pod shavers in the country

I don't think Tony travels to Mumbai to shape the custom ones.

Hunts off the shelf stock is mostly made in India by Sareen now yes. The bat makers at Hunts spend the majority of their time satisfying orders for custom bats for retailers like ourselves, customers who approach them directly or indeed for a number of small brands who use Hunts as their bat makers.

I picked this cleft myself and asked them to make it to the fairly basic requirements of FattusCattus, it is not a bat from off the shelf.

I am not getting into the debate about what is a custom made bat and what isn't. If a bat made to the requirements given can only be classed as a custom if you, the customer is present at the time it is made then no, i don't sell Hunts custom bats, the only ones i do are GN Legend experiences.

As for the question about why getting the bat through us is cheaper than going direct. Thats how most of the larger brands that still sell directly to the public operate, they sell to us at trade price, and they sell to the public at RRP. Our price to the public is somewhere between the two.

Hands are not being bitten off because many people have gone off the county brand. As has been raised, Tony is an outstanding bat maker and should not be overlooked even at rpp.

Here, here Jake.

My two Hunts County customs are, for the price, the best bat purchases I have ever made.

I used the Amplus-shaped one last night for the first time... It needs a little more knocking in but hit one cover drive which just fired! Great signs!

The Joker Extreme... That's just a cannon of a bat. Enough said. Problem is, I want to nail everything with it...

Can't speak highly enough of the custom bat makers around. Hunts County, for bang for your buck, are up there with the best of them.

The big problem with Cattus is that he gets some astonishing bats, but unlike the majority doesn't immediately put them in the sale section.

The flourish is an art form true. I meant you weren't asking for X mm edges and X mm spine with 120 grains, a couple of bells & whistles and to be hand delivered by Holly Willoughby. ;)

By the way, all of that can probably be arranged, the Willoughby LE will set you back £5k.

Perhaps, though people crave Sareen made bats, both away from the forum and on it. Do most of my customers prefer a bat that has been made in the UK? I would say yes but it isn't a deal breaker.

Thanks. So if I wanted one, your advice would be to contact you with an idea of a shape and a weight?

Of course. Everyone should buy all their stuff from us ;)

In all seriousness, at this price i cannot offer the option to visit Hunts and have Tony or Matt make a bat in front of your eyes over the course of an afternoon, so if that is what you are after i would say visit them and they will look after you. Great people.

If you have some requirements and are prepared to trust myself or robin to gets your specs understood clearly by the bat maker as well as picking out the right cleft (obviously matt/tony help with this part of the process as they know more than me) for you then for £165 i don't think you can go far wrong.

Thanks for the picture of Holly by the way Gingerbusiness, that has brightened up my afternoon :)

Im not a fan of county at all in terms of branding but they do make some cracking bats. Used to be all the rage around my area ( being only 15-20 miles away) but their products seemed to drop in standard slightly or atleast that was the view. Having spoken to both Steve and Tony on numerous occasions i can vouch for Tonys skills with a draw knife in hand. i was fortunate enough to spend a little time with Tony in my early bat making days watching him work and learning a little from him.

Tony's use of a wicket keeping glove has to be seen - I wouldn't imagine using a drawknife like he does!
