Well there has been a lot of discussion around the forums about this just lately so I thought I would try and shed some light onto it...
I know a middlesex player (Full contract Senior Team) cant say his name btw! ;)
I asked what he gets from his sponsor: £1000 off Kookabura gear a year
So not bad at all... After talking to him I have a feeling thats what most pros would do

VW sponsor the PCA and ECB, all the England team get a Toureg. Pietersen and Flintoff get paid to use theirs and have it in photo shoots etc.
There's also a regular lease deal that is offered to county players from VW, not a free car but discounted.

why not? That's not bad and then i suppose if he makes the international team he will get a pay increase.

fair enough, makes sense. but i dont think the 1000 buck on kook gear would be the way in aus. Seeing we have around 20-25 players per squad. and there's 6 teams. thats a maximum of 125 sponsored players in the league. sure maybe the lesser known players would get this deal, but id say 75% of that lot would either be supplied free kit or being payed to use it. As there are more players in county cricket the $1000 worth of kit deal would be the go as it would be cheaper on companies, and the players still get a relatively big amount of gear

i knew someone from SA who got 2 pads, gloves, (keeping and batting) and two bats..he was only a semi-pro-second teamer.
But i knew someone from somerset who got 5 bats, 3 pads, 3 gloves and extras..thigh pads etc etc...
both were from GM i dont think pros get money off do they...sure they just get given it...?

Since my brotyher in-law owns a sports company in India (BAS Vampire) and does supply a lot of willow and soft goods to Indian and International team players (supplied a hell lot of bats to international players during the IPL), heres what he told me:
Professionals: "They call and I send. But not sure wether thy use my bats or from another maker (except Sachin). We like other bat makers get a call and send the bats to their specs, without labels)
Semi-Pros / State teams / U-19: Provide kit for free or give discounts.
the professionals get paid by the company whos stickers thay put on their bats.
Sachin / Lara / Steve Waugh -MRF
Kookaburra has a huge list - Sanath Jayasuriya / Sanghakara / Ponting etc etc
Woodworm KP / Friddie

I live around the corner from an oval where Rockingham-Mandurah Mariners play in A Grade (the level below state) and i was havin a chat with some bloke who was sponsored by Gray Nicolls on a performance plan.
It was based on his Gametime and Overall performance. He told me because he had a belter of a season last season he scored a pretty good deal but a mate of his got next to nothing because he only scored 120 runs in 10 or so games.
He weren't exactly pro but the bat he had (GN Jet 1000) was a monster! And he got it for free :o

You could always ask your brother in law to sponsor a small group of umpires in Australia. It would be a major coup.
Heck $1200 US would see him right for a few years.

He owns a BAS outlet or owns THE company? Because that would be quite awesome :)

i heard from someone that international players will sometimes get given credit cards from their sponsors to use for anything involved around a cricket match, equipment, clothes and even drinks for after a game. apparently justin langer has this at somerset...

our indian player gets full set of everything and about 4 bats, he just shows his letter of contract from us and they give him load of free gear!
