Title: Slazenger pad straps - first thoughts
Post by: WalkingWicket37 on March 26, 2014, 08:50:27 PM
As some of you may know, I've been looking for some old style top strap pads for a while.

While I'm yet to find any, I thought if give the sports direct ones a go.

At £2.99 a pair online I wasn't expecting much.

What I received was basically some padding with a strip of Velcro on the back.

After a bit of fiddling I have them positioned in (what I hope is) the right place.

First impression - they're a bit of padding velcroed to the pad strap!

Are they more comfortable than a non padded strap? Slightly, but I've only walked round the house in them so it's hard to say.

Are they as good as a padded strap? No, but with some alterations they might improve.

Are they worth the money? If you're ordering anything else from sports direct yes they're worth trying, just these plea postage works out expensive however.

Am I impressed? And do they make a difference? I'll get back to you on that after I've used them.

No expense spared on the packaging!

Simply Velcro onto the "fluffy side" of the strap

This is what is against your leg

When you have the pads on

Firstly, in my first five years of playing ,  straps were leather with buckles.  Padded nonsense? That's what your trousers were for...

The earliest padding I remember on straps used to slip over the strap. It had a hole at either end that the strap fed through.  Use the scalpel to do that.

That's the kind of thing I've been looking for, made from leather or something similar, not found anything that meets the description yet though

Quick update on these, I took the scalpel to a pair (or two) of these.

These pictures are from my first effort which I wasn't happy with.

Velcro removed

Slit made to slip the strap through

And the pair I'm happy with.

Velcro on the inside (stuck usin my favourite impact adhesive) to hold them in place.
I put the Slazenger logo on this side so they're 'smooth' against my legs if I wear shorts.

This will be against my leg, there actually padding there now!

And they don't look too bad when done up.
