Without a shadow of doubt I'd get a Solitaire, his top price is £150 at the moment which will get you a nice grainy bat and as everyone knows, his bats really perform - great bloke who now has digital scales(so you will get the weight you order) and great after purchase customer service.

I stuck to the topic ish, with a slight deviation rather than going off on a tangent  ;)
There was a bat purchased with some of the £200, my days of spending that on a bat are long gone though!

B3 bespoke. spend the 200 to test out a revolutionary design - then spend a lot more to get it in top grade. slippery slope.

I would probably get a H4L G2 or a B&S Scorch, plenty of value for money in the mid ranges from TON and Kookaburra too. I've picked some belting 5 star Gray Nicolls bats, but seen plenty of less impressive ones too. The GM 808 range is arguably some of the best value for money out there.

In short, if you have 200, and you aren't buying blind, you are more than likely to get a very good bat and a bit of beer money left over.

I understand Solitaire have had fairly bad press in the past with weight issues(but he now has digital weights) and their website isn't exactly up to date - but for a completely UK handmade Grade 1 bat, you cannot go wrong for £150! Which you can also arrange to watch the bat being made which he does all himself. Pressing, Handling, Shaping, Finishing - you name it.

I'd skip down to IJC counting my cash, spend two hours playing with every bat Paul has for under £200 and then try to persuade him to flog me the Willostix Spitfire for £200 - love the decals on it.

Failing that Solitaire, Red Ink and H4L would al get a call to see what could be done for £200.....

i would be happy to go for any of the smaller British manufacturers but if I had to buy today it would probably be a Nixon Storm in a lighter weight as mine is going like a rocket in nets. It just seems that it has a longer middle than my other bats.  Mind you I have had several bats from Solitaire (including kids bats ) and the value is second to none. My other option would be a trip to the Aladdins cave that is kippax . choices choices ....

So it was a bat they had in stock? Seems like very good value; but to use the word 'custom' is misleading, is it not?

Jon, it's a Hunts made in the old Insignia shape, which isn't available any more, to specific weight - so in that sense it's a custom.

I didn't want it naked, so they very kindly agreed to put Caerulux stickers on for me, cos I am an all round good egg.

It was ordered specifically to those specs by me, and made up for me, rather than being off a shelf.

Does that clarify?
