Title: Procricketer 1982's nets on a farm
Post by: Alvaro on April 02, 2014, 11:53:35 AM
Hi all

Yesterday I broke my Bola cherry. I have been playing cricket years at a jobbing level, just above village to be honest.
It is a Godsend that Aidy has opened this facility and a very professional set-up it is (stumps aside), with scope for development.

A mate and me rocked up after getting a bit lost, and spent a good old hour or so hitting balls. Aidy was great - very friendly and enthusiastic about the venture. I, of course, was a bit useless, but got used to the feed by the end of the session. Aidy filmed me netting, which will obviously give me some pointers to work on once I'm able to analyse it.

So, all in all, a great way to spend a weekday evening. I feel it can only go from strength to strength and I will be back soon to try out an Aldred or three :)

Good stuff!

cheers dude. Was good to have a catch up last night as well. Defo nice to show that words are becoming actions too.. Jake's on the case with the stumps :) Poor beach cricket stumps didn't really stand a chance :(

I don't own a decent camera (ie, to show the light properly). I'll be borrowing someone's hopefully this weekend so I'll take some decent (ish) ones then (although, I'm no good at taking pics so you'll have to excuse that bit)

are you going to raise the roof a bit?

My spinners come down with snow on them so i reckon i would probably hit that roof or maybe i should just give up trying to bowl.

you've never seen me bowl, its shocking. They have some real air on them, I have been known to chuck them so high they go 6 foot over the wicketkeepers head.

thankfully i only bowl in friendly cricket matches.

How cheap is it? Wish I lived somewhere like that. Great stuff....I am planning to get a
Portable net once my kid is a little older...but nothing on this scale.

We took a group down today for a 3 hour net session. Here's some pics of the day. I think it's a great little setup:-

I've asked everyone whose come in so far and no one has said that. I am going to put up more lighting though before Xmas. Along with a second lane.

It is an evolving creation though, so as I say to anyone using it.. Let me know if there is anything to improve. It's also helpful to start seeing  the amount of people who actually turn up to net and those that say they would but don't. It's giving me some user data for the main event at least.

Went for a second net yesterday at the farm. Once again top fun, this time with the added benefit of some Aldred Butterfly bats to try. They seemed very big for their weight, particularly the Supreme which I had a dip with. Bit bottom heavy, but was a serious bit of kit. The thing that stood out was the handles. Lovely oval shape. Of them all I think the Gold shape is my favourite.

Also, Aidy's spare was nice. A Red Ink in X3 grade. Very good response from that bat.

Great way to spend an evening, chatting and feeding the machine.

Also, discovered I can fit my noggin inside last year's Masuri.... And I thought my gear purchases were done. :o

With us you get 2 chances when it comes to no-shows. We take a name an a phone number for each booking. If you fail to show up twice without contacting us then you go on a list. Anyone on that list wanting to book a lane will have to pay for it over the phone at the time of booking it.

Luckily as it's just mates or people I know using it I've not had any issues. If I actually advertised it etc then I'd not only get more people (too many to handle I think) but I'd probably have no shows too :(

I'll have two lanes soon enough and I'll start actually advertising.

Some good results coming from the training

Myself 2x 50's
George 2 x 100 s
Four other trainers got 50 s

Pretty good going and shows the value of regular decent sessions tbh.

After a really enjoyable net this afternoon, I can definitely recommend popping along, a nice facility and a really nice guy!
