I have just sold my GN Legend gloves and will have a brand new pair of GN Oblivion Test pads to potentially sell this week.
Looking at other softs I just can't seem to look past the M&H CK22 pads and gloves. But man they are expensive.
The softs I used last year cost me £122 for the set, GN Legend gloves £50 (2nd hand but like new) and Oblivion Test Pads £72 (Brand New)
The CK22 pads would come in at £155 for the set from Talent Cricket or £195 from M&H.
Whats the most you would spend on softs that you are likely to only use for 1 season?
Quick extra, do you reckon M&H would sell the softs to me for the online price of Talent Cricket rather than letting me walk out the shop without spending any money on Monday?
-
£80
-
Pre 2012 I would have spent whatever it took to have 'the best'. Now however, I know that you don't have to spend more than 60 on pads and 50 on gloves to get 'the best'. They just won't look flash to the 'standard' cricket player as they won't know the brand so will assume it's crap.
-
I would spend around 150 pounds on pads and gloves but like to have sets off pads to match my bat :D
-
Aren't most of them same stuff anyways with different branding. Puma, Adidas, Aero seem to some of they very few different ones.
For me £40 max on pads
£30 max on gloves
Thigh Guards hmmmm only every spent £35 max but willing to go £60
£10 max on arm guard

Yep, most are basically from the same few Indian suppliers. Like I said, you can get more value for your money if you actually look at the pad, not the branding.

Around 90 to 120.
The gms I have which are midrange are more than good enough, greatest design, great feel, good protection. And i think they cost me around 90 for lot(got gloves in a deal with a. Bet, hence unsure)
But I will hopefully have a set off top line spartan gear on the way, and fingers crossed they are as good as I believe they look.
As this is the first time I've been tempted to buy top range on the softs front.

I would rather not answer :(

Pads and gloves is consistently around £100, however, generally mine last at least two seasons. My current pads will be on their third this year, but will have a standby set as I don't think they'll survive till August...

I guess this all depends on how many matches you play in a season. You guys must get through a set or two every season!!!
For me with a limited number of matches in a season and using aero p2 pads and newbery thigh guards in nets I would limit myself to about 60-65 gbp which is how much i spent on a pair of 2014 Woodstock Platinum Sausage Gloves and a pair of matching pads all thanks to a forum member on here.... :D
I do love this forum....

Think you've found a pair to last a few weeks now :)
-
Probably £75-80 maximum. My softs for this year (kookaburra R1000 pads and SS super test gloves) cost around £65 combined. Both brand new too.
-
£100
-
No more than £90 on softs for me.
(This excludes my Strettons, which I invested in as they'll last a lifetime!)
-
Well I have just bought some softs, Kookaburra Pro edition pads and gloves with some extras.
-
i usually budget for £60 and plan to last for at least 3 seasons. i tend to buy my softs in the end of season sale got my puma calibre 4000 pads or £18 and a second hand pair of salix for £14. my gloves from last season are still in good nick.
i would love to get my hands on a pair of calibre 5000 gloves to match my pads but no luck so far :(
-
I like all my kit to match so it gets pretty expensive
-
£60 for pads and £50 for gloves.
some of the prices around are silly for softs.
-
Too much :(
-
Depends how much I spent on the matching bat lol.
The only problem I find is that I'm very fussy with gloves and will use about 3-4 pairs a season through netting etc, lucky Andrew is very kind to me in the kit department lol.
-
this may sound ridiculous but why do people by new softs every year? fine if they are knackered, but have people forgotten how to enjoy what you have?
-
Well I tend to make pads last a good few seasons, and at least 2 for gloves (have 2 pairs on the go in rotation).
I'm also currently in a position where my current pads have had it and I'm looking to upgrade. Therefore I'd be willing to pay a premium price for both.
However I won't be paying the money just because they are more expensive therefore better. I'll research all options at the level I'm looking to get, and choose my favourite dependant on look, feel, fit, weight, protection etc. then pay whatever if required.
-
I have a pair if pads that are coming into there 3rd it 4th season now, and there still well looked after and in great nick, I'm hoping they will last another few years . Gloves is a different story as some may know

I buy them to try them out what actually get used in games is different and tend to be my old trusty although i use new pones this year.
Gloves i always like a fresh pair or two in my bag but likely to keep my old ones if usable going.
Price well 100 quid for a top class pad and gloves
-
I used the same pair of gloves/pads for 2 seasons but that was back to back English season then onto a year in Aus. Pads were well worn in and felt nice on the legs but still offered protection. Gloves on the other hand were not in such great condition...
Would always like to look around 100 for the set. Only issue with that was I was given my new set of pads for free. Does this mean I'm allowed to splash out on nice, new and shiny gloves? :(

What's the price of B3's softs?

With all the nets and 50+ games my gloves are battered by the end of a season :(

Agree on gloves. Think they are different to pads in the sense they can get too worn out far quicker and you tend to lose the grip. Pads can last a few seasons if well maintained and looked after!
-
I guess i would follow quite a few others on here by having two sets of pads and gloves for nets and training and then on a saturday and sunday,
My net training gear is a set of Oblivion e41 5 star gloves which were about 32 pounds and my pads were sports direct sale Kook recoil 900's for 29 pounds
my match kit will be Kook impulse 900 gloves 45 notes and impulse 950 pads as well at 60 i think
-
I buy two pairs in one go. When I bat I always change them if I make it to the interval, if not in the next game I start with the other pair.
The reason being, your gloves won't knacker from from 25 overs but a sweaty 50 over job will soak them and then they don't dry out properly and get that slimy shiny look and feel.
I'm going into my 3rd season with mine.
I never buy pittards, think they are too thin and get soaked easily.

I had a pair of chase pads that finally dies after 5 seasons of use.
I bought a new pair last year - I used these until I ripped one of the straps out diving in an indoor game.
I have a new pair for this year, I plan to use them until they too die!
-
What's the price of B3's softs?
A tad more than that but with my bat i initally got got a few quid off.
Now it is different i guess they would cost around £130 for a set with the increase of soft good since last year i guess it about right mate.
-
Why do people use different pads for netting? Surely you want your net and match set up to be as similar as possible so that your practice and match play is too?

This will be my third season with my GN legend pads. Gloves have come and gone but these pads have stood the test of time (circa 50 games a year, plus nets etc. I wear other pads occasionally, but i use my legends at least 90%of the time) and what a truly wonderful product they are. For £99 I think they are worth the investment considering the use I've had and will continue to get out of them. They are starting to get a little tatty round the edges (I can't expect them to be pristine after all this time) but still more than wearable for a long time yet.
I will probably replace them at the end of the season simply to ensure other players (potential customers) see me in fresh kit, I can't ask/expect others to buy new stuff if I'm still rocking old gear. I suppose the other side of the coin is 'buy from me as the products I sell are reliable and will last a long time' -but ultimately I'm a gear badger and want new stuff :)
Best endorsement I can give about this pad? I started stockpiling my own stash of them when I got scared that GN were going to discontinue the Legend range.

Have two sets of pads, 4 sets of gloves;
1 x GM Original LE pads
1 x Newbery SPS II pads
and...
2 x Vantage LE gloves
1 x Redback Modern gloves
1 x Woodstock Platinum gloves
Both sets of pads set me back under £50 each new. The Vantage cost me £30 a pair (New), the Redback and Woodstock cost me £15 a pair (Light use).
Training and match kit. Both important to me. I do not like re-wearing sweaty kit.
All in all, my softs cost me £150-£200.
When it comes to good quality protection, you cant get enough.
-
I'd rather pay £80-100 on a pair of pads and make them last 4/5 seasons than say £50 and buy a new pair every year.
Gloves are slightly different however I believe you can get longer out of them than some seem to believe.
-
I have some softs that are 8 years old. and the leather palm on the softs is still soft. they have not had heavy use but still some gloves can just become tough sitting in a shop for 2 years.

Good question.... I think I do this partly because I have some very light aero p3s which helps with lugging a little less weight around in my kit bag but also because I lend my pads to new players or to those who haven't brought pads with them more often than not. We do have a pair of club pads in a locked storage locker but it's just easier to share mine that are already there next to the net.
However, I think I should net with my match pads more often for the reason you gave as well as my P3 protectors too. But again, just putting on my newbery thigh guards is just easier over the top of my bottoms rather than stripping off although I could wear them over the top too. I guess this also helps with the longevity of my softs so I don't have to replace them every year.
I just don't want to be lugging 2 pairs of everything around with me.
I actually think our net sessions do not replicate match pitch conditions at all in terms of bounce and pace which is mainly due to under investment but things in Prague progress very slowly. So our net sessions in terms of batting is really just about timing, experimenting with shots, playing in new bats and breaking some at the same time as well as working on our weakness areas. Lastly, giving our bowlers something to aim at.
-
I think my point really is that if you are going to have net and match softs, why wouldn't they be the same?

Because of you gonna spend 250 quid on softs, id want a tad bit of variety within my kit bag to show for that.
Im not a professional, so im not given 5 pairs of gloves. And when i buy something new i like to be excited by it. Opening the pack. Discovering little touches. First net with my new gear and such.
Non of which would happen if i had 5 sets if the same softs. And if one failed. I jist replaced it with the same thing.
I also have to say, im not a cricketer that would be effected by a small change in my pads, gloves etc. That would mean i suddenly became useless at cricket.
Are we saying kieswetter lost form and his england place merely because he switched from puma to m&h gear?
Or maybe roots poor showing in the ashes wasnt down to great bowling but merely as he had switched from a gm lid to a masuri one?
Nah that would be silly.
I suppose what im saying is. "A poor workman blames his tools"

Have you ever owned the Aero P3 / P2 / P1 Softs? They look a bit weird... so on match days go for something more traditional looking.
Saying that I do like the design and protection of the gloves so have a match day pair of those too.

When I used to spend money on pads I spent normally around 80/90 for the pads and then anywhere from 35-55 for the gloves - used to always have 2 pairs on the go too (Garrett mentioned switching them at drinks etc - same here!).
Since I started Neon I've used the same set of pads, only going into their 2nd season and there's no sign they'll need replacing anytime soon! I've just swapped the 2 gloves I had last season - didn't need replacing but when you get a delivery of 100 pairs of gloves its too tempting haha - got the others as a back up still
I'd be quite happy paying £150 for pads and gloves - I'll always go for quality first mind (regardless of how cheap/expensive something is!)

I do rate the neon softs. Served me well in the indoor and needed no wearing in at all.

Think I paid 100 all in for Ayrtek Elite. I then bought the Ltd edition black gloves so use the first 2 of 4 I find in the bag.
And before you ask, yes I have walked out to bat with 2 left hand gloves.
-
If I buy at the end of the Aussie season, as it is now, 60AUD tops for gloves and 80AUD tops for pads. 140AUD is about 80pounds.
My favourite and current gear is no name, no brand pads (looks like SS) with level 5 protection and SS Millenium Pro pads. Both were around the 50-70AUD point. Gloves BAS Legend and Grove LE, both around 60AUD.
-
Depends - I think it averages at about £70 for the lot.
At the moment I've a set of Newbery Thruxton pads which set me back a grand total of £30 (new) and a pair of SS LEs which were £30 from online stockist.
My last pads were Kook Blade (Runner?? I really hope it was Runner!) for £45 and a set of K1000s for £40.
I don't really see the need to pay lots of money for the latest softs as you can get them at silly money at the end of the season (just my opinion though)
