Title: Markings on Grays e41 5 star
Post by: Warneymonster on April 05, 2014, 05:11:27 PM
Can anyone shed any light in the markings I found under the grip on my e41 5*

Did you buy it second hand? To be honest, could well be someone just playing around... Could also be lucky enough to have received a cleft Cook was thinking of using for his bat. :)

Any chance of a pic of the bat mate?

I would off thought that if it was a bat for cook it would off been a higher grade like le but who knows because some off the bats that gray nicks try and pass off as le is quite scary and they are not cheap

I would guess its not massively pressed but only guessing. I tend to pick bats purely on performance in the shop, this tapped up really well so I thought I'd give it a go.

Bit of luck if it was one assigned for a pro

Simon is it your auto correct or are you just seeing how long before someone says something about "sure" being "shaw" in your posts :) . reminds me of "meow" from super troopers :D

I would imagine Cook goes to the factory once in a while, picks out a monstrous amount of clefts, GN make them into bats to his specs (Or various specs if he is looking for a slight change in shape), then he goes back and picks out 10/20 which he will keep for the season (Few test, T20, one day, Net/practice bats) and the rest go back into circulation where the GN batmakers reckon they can sell them.

No offence intended by this comment - but I would imagine, with the amount of heartwood, that this would have been a netting/practice bat for him (Something a bit harder wearing). I would imagine that 'Legend' would refer to the shape, not the standard of wood.

Can I ask what weight it is?

NB. I may add this bat reminds me of a bat Alex Hales had, which made its way to me recently. The bat looks very similar in looks but picks up and performs phenomenally well. Who knows really unless you speak to the batmaker

No offence taken. I know very little about bats or the bat making process, I just pick them on what feels good. Sometimes I get a good one but have sold plenty within weeks, I'm trying to get rid of the ricochet I bought last year as I've just not got on with it.

The E41 is about 2'9 without the extra grip added. I don't know if this photo helps with the profile view

The sticker at the top of the handle and the toe guard suggest it was made in India.

As it's only a 5* it wouldn't shock me.

Think someone was having a giggle, Jake?

I have seen plenty of odd stuff written on handles and binding, underneath your toe guard is another place to look, less common nowadays though.

I tend to find GN write things on the binding rather than the handle. Don't see any reason for Fordhams to do this themselves, could be someone messing about, could be a mistake, could be a bat intended for/rejected by cook. Whatever it is, looks decent enough for a 5 star :)

I'll have a look at the binding tomorrow. Not really bothered why it's there on the handle as performs really well, just thought it might be interesting to find out if I'd got a gem for a cut price

Possibly the meaning of life? Directions to the Holy Grail? Kelly Brook's phone number? Who knows what you will find! Exciting times! :D
