Hi Guys,
My cousin asked me to upload a video of him bowling to this forum so he could get some feedback.
Here's a link to the video http://youtu.be/tgLJWu0sv0c (http://youtu.be/tgLJWu0sv0c)
Cheers Haseeb!

He seems to be falling away at the release point when you slow it down you can really see it and might bowl a odd no ball or two but I would like to see him from different angels like face on side on and behind I would work on the release point before trying to bowl quick as if he has not got the control he will go for runs I hope this helps and don't mean to sound picky :)
-
The other issue with falling away to off is that he will tend to push the ball down leg, and risks leg side wides.

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. Next time we're in nets I'll try to get some more video at different angles.

It would help as then can show him yourself about falling away as he releases the ball

Lead arm is the issue, trying to clear it quickly and pulling his upper body to the left giving the impression of falling away.

His lead arm is down by his side on realise so he needs to try and get it nice and high on realise

It's a good action ...he is not falling away ...a number of junior coaches are say he's falling away because that's all they know (every quickie falls away a tad or too)........if his front foot was braced on hitting the crease ie straight .....he would be more upright....but not much ..... his front arm is good ......he gets through the crease well and his front arm is high and straight at the beginning of the coil .......Rookies have posted a lot of duff information here ......his action is fine ......dont change anything other than looking into front foot block tecnhiques for the front leg .....

good coaches tend not to patronise other people, especially those who
a. they don't know
b. they don't know how qualified they are.
a qualification doesn't make a good coach.

and being an Administrator does not mean your points are valid or accurate fella ! The advice given is wrong unfortunately .....in reflection i could of worded it more delicately as they say ....but i stand by it !
-
Why ask for feedback then get defensive??
Most things in our wonderful game are wide open to debate head or feet, pre mediation etc
Its a forum for chatting and sharing views.

A good coach is someone who has a good attitude but we can agreed to diss agree but to call people junior is utter crap

so here is the thing.
I have my views on the guys bowling action. But haven't commented on it as I know there are some better bowling coaches on here than me, so I don't understand your point?
regardless typically it is good to read what other people say then respectfully suggest a different approach. politely. especially on here where there are some impressionable youngsters. in most cases you don't know who on here is 16 or 50.
As for your views. Ian Pont will have a different view to David Saker, who has a different view from Troy Cooley, all have had success with their methods.
I, for instance am not a big fan of the video you put up of the lofted on drive, but didn't feel a need to pick holes on it. If it works for someone on here great, but I would never coach someone to play a shot on the walk like you have or suggest the lofted drive is played from 2 feet further away from the body, that is nuts (in my view)
for all you know I may be a level 4 coach, so don't walk in and criticise.
just being qualified from the ecb is great, but it isn't enough, or frequently relevant.
For example, the best piece of batting advice I have ever had came from a wonderful woman who wouldn't know one end from a bat from the other and certainly isn't a batting coach - that advice has also helped a number of other players when I passed it on.
As someone who has been coaching for 20 years, my experience is understanding people and their minds is more helpful.
just some Sunday evening waffle.
-
p.s. the pupil has to be ready for the coach.
a coach can't just barge in and force their views.
that is one of the fundamental issues with English cricket at the moment

Yup, damn right you could have worded it better - what on earth is wrong with a little humility or politeness? It might go a long way on here to getting people to give your points a little more credence.
Nice work on entering what was a constructive debate from someone who asked for opinions. Bet a coaching net with you is fun!

Buzz, whats the bit of advice from the woman?! :-[

i was thinking the same thing

Buzz, whats the bit of advice from the woman?! :-[
Could be something like
'Its just a game' aka enjoy it, have fun but remember it's supposed to be enjoyable.. Not über serious
-
Wow! I did not expect this. Haha!
First of all i would like to say thanks to simonmay and others for their advice (We will try to put it into practice!) Please don't step back from giving advice just because of some individuals!
Jemile i would like to say that your words, which were very harsh to the others shows what kind of coach and individual you are and also shows to other individuals that they shouldn't get coaching from you. To be honest i don't even know how you got the ECB level 3 coaching status!
Cheers Haseeb!

Buzz, whats the bit of advice from the woman?! :-[
I couldn't possibly tell you that ;)
ok go on then.
the lady in question is a physio and specializes in golf injuries.
I was having back problems and she asked me to stand as if I was batting and taught me to bend at my hips, rather than stooping from my shoulders and how to use my core muscles for batting.
it was personal to the problems I was having. but by straightening my back and improving my posture I had better balance and was more comfortable then stared to score more runs... difficult to explain in text.
maybe I should do some videos :o

As Buzz said in the other thread, quals doesn't mean you know what your talking about or that you are good at coaching. Otherwise anyone could become a top coach if it were as simple as attending a few ECB courses !
Defo do a video on the advice Buzz.

We are not admin on a cricket forum because we know more about cricket or are better players than anyone else. I like to think we are Admin because we have a certain attitude and principles that make a good Admin?
But Alas, coaches simply have to take qualifications, and then they can coach.
A coach is a teacher! And look at the difference in teachers!! Some are well qualified and insist on massive discipline and their lessons are not fun and some of their students would be shut off or bored! I believe the best teachers are the ones who make learning interesting, fun and can open the students minds and engage with them - this includes students questioning things they are taught and trying to understand why something is correct.
When picking a coach I would look at the person and if it is someone I could relate to and someone I actually WANT to learn from! I wouldn't care if he is level 2, 3 or 4....in my book its about whether I'd like to learn from him and whether he has the character to engage me and make it something my brain will enjoy!
Attitude and some humility counts for a lot in life. Most of us find a 'know-it-all' and arrogant person someone we don't really want to learn from or even associate with - not that I'm saying that anyone posted in this topic an arrogant and self righteous person of course - I am simply generalising! ;)
If someone (for example) joins a cricket forum to try to drum up coaching business or show everyone how good they are, then is that a person that we would want to know? Hmmmm, not me thank you.
If it were someone who joins a forum to help people and genuinely wants to mentor and to offer their experience in a civil and sincere way then we would love that!
I believe that coaching is helping and bringing people on by positive engagement. Coaching is not about preaching and saying that everyone else is wrong and there is only one way!! Praise The Lord! I'd better shut up before I bore people myself!
Sermon is over! Sorry!

Just to add to the arguing... I would argue your all wrong and its impossible to tell anything from his bowling action from one ball, need to see a few balls and a few angles to see if he's doing the same thing everytime

Excatuley what I said need to see more angels like face on side on and so on but got told I was a rookie lol
-
actually, just to add to the arguing..........
To be fair, I think we're just adding to the arguing ourselves - he seems to have gone away for a bit.

Think you'll find I said because of him trying to clear his front arm it is giving the impression of him falling away. Bet he bowls a higher % than most down the leg side this would be corrected IMO be a stronger front arm
