In a net Yesterday I hit a half volley outside of stump, instead of creaming it I toed it and it made the most horrific plinking sound and vibrated like something in a porn stars draw!
Ever since, the bat as vibrated horribly, whenever i hit the ball a mm under the sweet spot it sounds terrible and vibrates terribly.
Having inspected the toe at the front I can see no visible damage, I can't look at the back as it's covered by stickers and I don't want to remove them.
Can you tell a bat is gone just by noise and feel or would there have to be visable damage to be certain?
Thanks in advance
Ollie

Had it since December 2012

check the handle. roll up the grip and see if there are any cracks running down into the shoulder area. that is generally where it would break from something like this.

Sounds the bat has a crack somewhere. Something similar happened to my teammate a couple of weeks back,at first there was a double sound and he said it was fine and after the next practice session a very visible crack at the toe. Unfortunately it was a L&W reserve and also his favorite match bat....ouch!!!

There does seem to be a smallish crack on the shoulder going onto the handle...
Is this going to be terminal?
Could it require a new bat? (i wouldn't mind if it did)
Thanks Ollie

Pretty much most things are fixable. Might help if you post a picture of the damage and then we would be better informed.

If the handle is still tight in the vee and the problem is not the crack in the bat shoulder it could be that the bat handle has disintegrated roll off the grip and check the tightness of the binding grip the blade of the bat and shake the bat. Ideally to check the condition of the handle you need to remove the binding.

This will 'eventually' be terminal. But you can probably prolong the life with some basic repair work. I would suggest you peel off the stickers to see exactly far down the bat the crack is. Eventually it will just snap as the crack gets longer.
