Title: fibre sheet vs clear sheet
Post by: LEACHY48 on April 13, 2014, 06:15:44 PM
Hi guys, had a quick search for this, but what are the pros and cons of both these? I have heard that the fibre sheet reduces performance less? what are the opinions on the forum?

thanks

Jake

Prefer a clear sheet, easier to remove and you can still see the face of the bat.

I think that the fibre glass is thinner, so weighs less, and therefore preferable in that sense. I suppose if it's thinner then it should have less effect on performance as the barrier between bat and ball is reduced.

However, it is a bugger to remove and looks crap, so the clear, thicker sheets are more appealing to me, as I like how my bats look and I refurb the bats myself.

P.s. The effect on performance is bound to be so marginal though. Hit it in the middle and it'll still go!

Marlon Samuels, Chris Gayle and virat kholi use fibre sheets so I'd say there must be something good with them

They are generally a lot thinner, more flexible and do just as good a job, if not better, than thicker clearer ones.

I use them for my lower grade, already quite ugly, bats. In fact, I prefer them in everything except the look.

What's the point of paying top dollar for a bat to hide the one thing that you really pay for, the looks.

Aaron Finch uses fibre sheets the reason they do is because there lighter and do not mess with balancing issues.

Loads of the Australians use them.
Clarke, smith, Johnson, Rogers...

I have used both the clear ones seem to be thicker and weigh about 2 times as much as fibre sheets and also are easily removed where as the fibre sheets offer much greater less clacking etc and a more permanent solution most likely why pros tend to use them

Clear sheets have a more negative  affect on performance than fibre and can be better to remove, fibre sheets do not last as long as clear sheets.

so to summarise,      fibre: better protection, lighter, lesser effect on performance, more flexible and cheaper       whereas----    Clear: look good

thats pretty much it right?

the looks dont get you any runs.
if you can get the same job done by adding less weight, then i think its worth it.

Makes sense. And if you aren't the one refurbing your bat then you don't care how hard it is to remove...

It's not overly hard to remove with a heat gun and decent scraper.

Depends how long it has been on for and how many balls have been hit. Has a horrible tendency to shred which isn't fun to get off.

Have you tried a heat gun ( not a hairdryer) and scraper?

I prefer clear sheets in new bats and bats in a good condition.... but when bats are old and with several cracks i use fibre sheets gives better protection, but its a pain in the **ss to remove it if the bat needs any repair ...

Cheers...

This is like the Sausage sandwich game.

Fibre sheet, clear sheet, or no sheet at all.

I'm for 'no sheet at all'.

I reckon the pros use fibre sheets because it offers greater protection to the bat. There bats will have hardly any moisture in them so they can get massive amounts of wood for light weight. The extra protection will help the bat last that little longer on the international stage when the ball is hitting the bats at a great pace.
