Title: County Cricket 2014
Post by: Sam on April 14, 2014, 12:55:50 PM
Thought I'd open up a different thread for general discussion of county cricket this year instead of mess up the England prospects one :). Just curious, who do you all support  :)?

I support Hampshire and was a bit suprised to just check the scorecard this morning and see we'd managed to get Gloucestershire from 289/4 to 304 all out this in about 5 overs! Wasn't quite expecting that and Abbott (our new overseas, South African bowler on the verge of the test side) took a 5fer so he seems to have had a good start! Hopefully our bowling can stay like this throughout the season as it has been lacking in CC in the last couple of years. Carberry made an agressive start but unfortunately fell for 27 (33). Hoping for high finishes in all formats this season including hopefully being promoted to D1 where we deserve to be  ;).

Sussex seemed to have a surprise bowling effort yesterday against Warwickshire which was a bit shocking considering they had both Bell and Trott!

Just curious mate, why isn't Hales playing? I thought he got a decent score in the last match?

Dropped for Taylor as far as I can work out.

He got 60 odd in the first innings then a duck in the 2nd when notts were trying to pile on quick runs.

As an Essex fan, this game has gone from Terrible, to Mediocre, to OK, to Good and now to us being in quite a strong position.

This theme will continue through the season i imagine, we seem to be far too inconsistent with our performances. From the sublime to the awful (20 all out) in one go. Still, hopefully we've got a team that want to fight for wins and for their positions, rather than just cruise by, which seems to have been the case for the last few years.

Yorks 450 first innings thats a good enough start for me!!

Ballance 77 in first innings, top 3 finish for the tykes.

Well Hants have had probably one of the best days of the CC season so far taking 5 wickets and scoring 417 runs   :D!

Your opinion of the challenge offered up by my callow Gloucs boys is far too high.

The 2 overseas bowlers have started well!

Abbott and Bollinger both taking 5ers!

Yep, bet both counties are hoping they can keep it up throughout the season.

Hants just need 128 to win now  :). Only negatives to come out of this game are we let the tail wag a little bit in the second innings (although we cleared it out in the 1st so I assume that makes up for it) and Adam Wheater has fractured his finger and was not keeping or fielding early this morning/most of yesterday  :-[.

Bit quiet here, anyone going to a T20 blast match tonight  :)? Going to the Hants v Glamorgan game personally. Hopefully Maxwell gets back from the IPL asap to play for us when he's done so we don't miss him for too long  :(.

I'm a Surrey fan really. I have one of those season tickets to the T20's but I seriously doubt I'll be able to get down to any CC games, though I might take a day off work to get down the Oval is KP decides he fancies a game.

If the England boys and Williamson weren't playing then I don't think I would bother, as Northants don't have any big names either.  I remember when it first started that T20 was a fiver to get in and all about getting kids involved, now it's just turned into a cash cow for the counties.

Last time I went to a t20 this happened (turn your speakers down as well):-

Poults it's a Tie!, and Lazarus in the wheelchair. Yorks v Lancs t20 July 5th 2013 Final Ball (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRdyN1h6w5M#ws)

Poults' last ball antics still didn't make up for the fact that he got us seats with a restricted view as hoardes of people kept walking past every over.

Didn't see the game at Hove but Cricinfo informs me that Dernbach failed to defend 16 off the final over.. Including being hit for successive boundaries in the final two deliveries of the game by Yasir Arafat.. Guessing he might be steadily moving down the pecking order for an England spot.
