As the only person in my club with any kind of work ethic, I've held the task of sorting out our kit for the last couple of seasons.
One thing we haven't updated recently is our caps, so I'm looking for some opinions.
We use Gray Nicolls kit so we have the option of adding the GN baseball style caps to our kit, but these are fairly common and I've been considering maybe going towards baggy caps.
I also thought about trying to get them sponsored and awarding them to people for performances - 100s or 5fers perhaps. What do people think?

I am a big fan of the idea of awarding someone a special cap - like their "colours" for a quality performance. It helps motivate people and gives them a sense of pride in the team and their game.
you could give them for 100's - multiple 50's (so they are earned), dismissals by a keeper etc - perhaps 500 league runs or 30 league wickets in a season, that type of thing

What about getting everyone baggy caps and getting special performances embroidered on?
For example I'd get the cap and when I scored 102* at Lords, I'd have "102* - Lord's" embroidered somewhere on the hat.
The more hats you fill, the better player you are obviously. Could be a club tradition - "Oh, John Citizen was a brilliant player in his day. He earned 4 caps, you know."

I absolutely knew that one of the first replies to this thread would be from Uzi - doesn't miss a trick.
the more i think about this the more i like it. does anyone think that only giving them for 100s, 5fers and 5 catch matches is too stingy, or does that help to keep them special?

When i captained marlow 3s, I use to frame the scorecard for any colt taking their first 5 wicket haul or first 100.

We do this at our club mate and always have done. It becomes a real badge of pride type thing. Used to be 8 wickets for bowlers which was very harsh, down to 7 now which is still pretty tough!
The only annoying thing is when you get your cap as a teenager and lose it immediately because you are an idiot at that age :(

the problem is, having different coloured caps looks absolutely village.
my idea was standard caps that all members can buy, and special embroidered ones for performances that cannot be bought.

We have gone to baggy caps this season. In the past we have awarded caps for 50-100-200 club appearances.

Not the standard I play at, there were 10 tons scored last year in our team alone.

While reading this thread I had this crazy idea that sounds good to me but may not turn out to be pretty. Give me your feedback.
Before I go in the details I would say the standard of cricket is not so great in the leagues available in the area, a T20 score of 140-150 would get your a comfortable win. None of our club members want to put in a whole day participating in a 40 over game due to family commitments.
So I wanted to set up a structure where we can recognize the player of the match (from within our club) each week and in turn get people show some more commitment to their cricket. In addition to player of the match there would be additional recognition such as "A Ton", "5 Wicket Haul" and the end of the season "MVP of the season", "Highest Wickets", "Highest Runs"
At the time of recognition the player would receive a Velcro backed patch with achievement, club logo and year 2014 embroidered on it.
On first such recognition player would also win a the baggy cap.
Now the challenge is to find or create a baggy cap with slots where up to five patches can be attached.
I feel that this would create sense of pride and achievement and a memory for the player.
Now I am not married to the idea of having Velcro and other suggestions are welcome.
In my head the idea sounds good but the cap with 2-3 patches may look ugly.

personally i don't like it. sounds like the Scouts.

You could have a set of stumps embroidered on the cap for a fifer a bat for a ton.
