mark Ramprakash doing a bat test. picked out a woodworm as the winner even though he didn't like the look of the ugly tight grain.
was mainly interesting to read his thoughts on the different bats

Affinity Carbine didn't do too bad
-
So beating a line up of our usual favourite made in England bats massive RRPs is an Asian made bat costing £180.
Have to admit I've looked past Woodworm for the past 5 or so years, would be interested to see what they're churning out these days.
-
it certainly surprised me. i used to have all the woodworm gear except for a bat during the flintoff/kp era as i liked the red colours. I always keep an eye on their stuff as i get emails also they quite often have good discounts
-
Funny thing is that two of my friends bought iBat black labels last year and neither of them kept the bats for the season. Both got binned. And they were truly horrible.

some absolute belters, some dreck, more or less the same as any mass market mass produced brand with limited quality control in place!

For me, the most interesting bit of feedback was the Hunts Revolution Turbo, saying that despite the retro looks it performed well.

Maybe its just me but they all perform well and he has marked bats down because they "feel heavy" have "oval handles" or "flat faces" all of these are things he doesn't like!! Not exactly a review more his personal preference.
Just my view.

I thought exactly the same.

thats the bit i found interesting just to hear his thoughts on bats as he seems quite particular about what he likes

So everything I have read about woodworm bats has been negative in terms of hit and miss performance and bad service but he rates it as the best bat.
Top of the line woodworms are around 180 which is very good price.
Given a choice between iBat and Vulcan Achilles Bat pro (160) which one would you choose?
Reason for the question is iBat has very negative image on the forum and couldn't find any review on the Vulcan.
-
Ramps has hardly done a fair review on any of the bats, it sounds like an assesment made from photos.
Its all about his personal preferences on looks and i doubt he actually hit a ball in anger with any of the bats.

I had a woodworm torch back in the day and it was a great bat. I very much doubt there is anyone on here who has had a woodworm since they went bust and restarted the brand again.
Is the Vulcan made by Dean? Or is it Gary?

Is Dean from what I have read so far.

I got the opposite impression. He clearly didn't like the look of the Woodworm bat, but as he said, its performance was superior. The article also has a picture of him with the bats at the nets. To be fair, I don't think he spent a solid session with these bats and so the amount of net time he had with each of them would have been minimal. Considering those limits, it seems to me to be a pretty honest appraisal (not necessarily an in depth review) on his part.
I used a mate's ibat Pro series (I believe it's 1st or 2nd grade willow) in the nets last season and it performed really well. The middle was a bit lower than what I'm used to, but that's hardly something to criticise. Something I noticed was that the shape/profile (minus the trademark hourglass upper section) of the bat looked strikingly similar to another team mate's SS Ton Orange bat. I certainly agree that the Woodworm stickers and bat model names are horrible. The marketing team should really come up with something a bit more mature and dignified.
Interestingly, the commercially available Woodworm bats are pretty heavily scalloped. I was surprised to learn that in Ramprakash's view, the Woodworm edged the Affinity Carbine - a bat with a much fuller profile. After reading so much about the about the Carbine, I would have thought that it would have blown away the rest of the field in such a review in performance, balance, pick up and looks.
My interested is piqued - I'll have to give my mate's Woodworm another crack this season.

Old post don't remember but a mate of mine was looking for a bat and you had posted one on twitter around that time.
Prices for your bat and woodworm were pretty similar.
He ended up with something else altogether.

ok no worries ;)
