Title: Groin Strain
Post by: Rob580 on April 23, 2014, 01:00:26 PM
Afternoon All,
Sorry if this has been on here before, couldn't find it on the Search function.

But has anyone got any good treatments / stretches for a groin strain. I did it last July and have been to the doctors, who as ever, prescribed rest. Which i have done as much as i can over the winter. However, it doesn't appear to have helped. Initially thought it was a hernia as it is agony when i jolt it or sneeze!

Really would appreciate any stretches or excercises anyone knows, Just for the mean-time before i go back to the quack.

i can't help at all, only to tell you it took me a good six months to get over the same problem with numerous visits to my physio.

have you tried using a foam roller to warm up with?

Whether it works or not, you can't say no to rubbing a foam roller around your groin can you?

So giving myself a roller groin massage. Might have to do that at home rather than the changing rooms.

Had exactly the same thing. In my case the scare tissue just built up and restricted my running.  I did loads of ultra sound, groin stretches and was banned from running for 6 months (during the winter fortunately). Stretch wise, I think I did side lunges and also the frog.

I suffer from tightness in that area. What works for me is sitting with your legs bent so your balls of your feet at touching then push your knees down if you catch my drift.

This is the video I was thinking of. See 25min 12secs in but all of the exercises give the total picture.

Thanks guys, much appreciated! Had nets & fielding tonight, did a few lunges and things that sort of looked like stretches. Not too bad, I'd forgotten about the one sat on the floor Jaffa, cheers buddy!!

When i used to have lots of problems with groin strains it was down to a weak core and tight hip flexers, as my pelvis had slightly rotated. Its all interlinked so i started doing a lot of core work, using a foam roller etc made a massive difference as i would even get niggles from playing golf with the rotation from the swing.

same as the above post.

i've recently bought a foam roller - you can find a lot of good exercises on youtube.

Thanks again chaps, my brother has got a foam roller thinking about it. I'll pinch it off him and give it a go!
