I'm cleaning this up for a mate and he brought it for bouncy Australian wickets, but Adelaide is so dry in summer he has found it's too high.
Can I modify this profile to lower the middle? I was thinking that taking weight from the shoulder might help any suggestions?

If you mate can live with it, chop an inch off the toe. Taking weight off the shoulders won't lower the middle - it's still in the same place, just make it bottom heavy.
-
Surely there is no way of lowering the middle.
Wouldn't cutting an inch of the toe have no effect other than shortening the bat. Seeing that when playing his shots he will still be hitting the ball in the same place on the bat unless he starts getting lower into his shots?

Hold the bat a little further up the handle, and hey presto, the middle is lower! ;)

It's an interesting question . I really need to lower the spine. You can easily raise a middle but not lower unless I can add weight to the toe. I'll be interested if anyone has had any success

Generally people raise the middle because they want to improve the pickup. So they can remove some willow lower down and it won't matter so much because they don't often hit the ball lower down the blade. So in theory, they achieve better pickup without affecting performance where it matters to them. But the main point here is to improve pickup, with the better performance coming from improved bat speed and timing.
I don't think the same applies here. You remove wood higher up but you don't gain more power down low by doing that. And if he is happy with the pickup as is then I don't see any point in removing any willow/weight?

That was going to be my other suggestion lol

I'll just tell him to go and play hardwicket. Plenty of bounce to exploit.

You would need to add willow further down towards the toe to lower the middle which to my limited knowledge cant be done
The only option would be to shorted the blade and rehandle as a long hanle 20/20 style.

Tell him he needs to buy a new bat.
I am really not sure you will be able to lower the middle of this bat - if you take weight off the shoulder/spine it will just be lighter and look odd.
-
We both thought it was near impossible. He has given me three bats to clean up and the other two are fine. I just wondered if there was a way I was not aware of.
Thanks for the advice. Much appreciated.

Take an inch off the toe, and put on a new handle 1 inch longer than the previous?
-
Agree with what has been suggested you could lower the sweetspot by cutting upto 2 inches of deadwood from the toe but how would your teammate feel about the lighter pickup as doing this you could lose around 3 ounces of weight.

Laminating the face with a back which has meat/spine lower down? Too much of a hassle imo & illegal in First class as well, but theoretically an option.

Chop it in for a different one. Cutting the bottom off of it is just mental. So is anyone else who thinks Saunders isn't taking the mickey.
