Would appreciate your thoughts on sourcing my next stick o' willow, folks.
A bit about me: I'm not a huge chap: 5'7", weighing just over 10 stone. I either open the batting or come in down the order to shore things up. More of a strokeplayer than a power hitter, I favour the back foot but need to drive if the ball's up there.
So I'm after a balanced 'strokemaker's' bat for front & backfoot shots, where bat speed and value for middled and off-centre shots is more important than outright muscle and huge 'look at me' edges.
Is there an existing bat that fits this sort of profile best? I'm thinking along the lines of an Affinity Carbine/Phantom, M&H Amplus profile perhaps. Am I way off the mark, or would I need a custom-made jobbie, you think?
Am I asking for the moon on a stick with this kind of specification?
• 2lb8 to 2lb9 with grip & stickers
• Ping & performance over looks
• Ideally oversize cleft
• Softly pressed
• Long, wide, & forgiving middle
• Mid or low-mid sweet spot
• Offset edges if it helps lengthen the middle?
• No or very minimal concaving/scalloping
• No massive edges at expense of middle
• Thinner toe to help pick up
• Slight bow only if it helps pickup
• Traditional oval toe if it helps pickup
• Flat face with rounded edges
• Short oval handle

you are describing the DB3 B3 shape or perhaps the GM Purest shape.
Alternatively the new Newbery Mjolner shape - would work for you - blank bats also sell a similar shape.
An H4L Hattori bat might also be right up your street too.
What you are asking for is pretty sensible - there are number of batmakers or retailers on here who could sell you a bat like that
-
I highly doubt you will be able to get an oversized cleft at that weight, most start 2lb 11oz and above.
Apart from that, GM Purist sounds like your best fit.
-
I'd go for an M&H Original High or Harlequin. Doesn't match all your criteria (most of it though) but they're perfect for the job - light pickup, superbly pressed and the performance is exceptional.
-
That's exactly what I had in mind. Let me know how you get on.
I want the same except in even lighter range 2'7 ish and no more than 2'8 dressed
-
The Purist in the pictures below may take your fancy, don't exclude the Six6 though, great shape.

Send me a pm if you want to discuss mate, i have a number of other bats that may be suitable too.

Hmmm, food for thought there. Thanks for your suggestions (and pics) chaps. I hadn't even considered a GM Purist. They do look the part.
As good as they may be, thing is, I'd prefer the personal touch of a handmade blade from one of our sponsors; selecting the right cleft for that particular bat profile and working with the willow (as opposed to a CAD template), and determining how much the blade needs pressing based on the chosen cleft. I think you just stand a better chance of getting a very good bat this way. Happy to be proved wrong, mind.
Handmade bats are much better value, too. :D

Funnily enough, I have a Mjolnir. Old shape, about 10 yrs old weighing in at 2lb 7oz. That's what I'm planning on replacing this or next season.
Had a good look at the H4L offerings. They've been getting some rave reviews, but there seems to be a focus on big edges on all of them.
The B3 DB3 looks interesting.

Chase might be a possibility.

The DB3 is one of our best sellers away from this forum most people do prefer pre made and why no when it is a great shape.

I do like the M&H stuff. Was thinking more of an Amplus profile, but I'll have another look at these two.
-
If you like the amplus style profile, contact BB. I've just received my gold edition amplus profile (though Middle has been lowered upon request). For the size and weight you can't go wrong...

Correct me if I am wrong.
According to the profile info of the B3 series, the DB3 has a lot of concaving + a lot of less wood tapering towards the handle. But the DB2 profile makes a lot more sense with the middle shifted a little lower.
Mattsky:
I would suggest to go for the Db2 profile ( with middle shifted a little low) or Scat series 1 profile with a little concaving to fit his weight range( Series 1 shape are 2.10 + without concaving).

i cant recommend M&H original high/amplus/harlequin (they are all the same shape) enough, top bats with a MASSIVE middle, biggest i have had on a bat, bar my B&S which is a bit special.

Yep, good call. I'm really interested in hearing more about the Affinity or Carbine. I'd love to have a go with either of those.
I'll check out the Uzi too, but I thought that was that's a shorter, heavier T20 kind of bat.

If you visit us you can have a little go in our net with my Carbine before you buy one ;)
(Note, there's no chance you won't buy after using, they are very good indeed!)
You can do the same with B&S bats which have been suggested by members. :)

Going to say it but custom Salix or off the shelf a pod or SLX would cover most areas. Excellent performance fully handmade and amazing finish. You can have a custom visit or custom bat via speaking to Andrew on phone or email.
-
I guess you need something in Kohli or Clarke shape. Pickup a Ton or Spartan in a store and get it custom made somewhere else foe cheap.

If I got hold of your Carbine, you'd probably have to wrestle it out of my hands, Jake. ;)
if I was anywhere near Peterborough, I'd be over like a shot.

Ah, thanks for putting me right on that one, Asad. Those Uzis look like they could do a ball some damage. Impressed with the 'guaranteed performance or your money back' offer.
600 bats to try? I'd be in there for months.
-
Might be hard to get an Amplus in that weight ( I settled on 2:10) I'd like to see BB's shape or a review.
A Newbery GT might be a good option.
What bat in the a GM range replaced the Flare?
