Title: Saturday 7th June 2014 - North Yorkshire
Post by: Lumsden on May 01, 2014, 01:26:32 PM
After last week's debacle, it's a bit frustrating that this Saturday is a free week (odd number of teams in our division) so available for any 2nd XI or lower (lower the better) within roughly 30 miles of York. I am reasonable 2nd XI bowler who now thinks he can bat although I am to fielding what Inzaman Ul-Haq was to running between the wickets.... but worse. Available Saturday or Sunday, just want to play a match and get some competitive cricket.

Shame I didn't see this sooner - our seconds are struggling for a team

Ending up playing for Cawood 2nds at New Earswick.

Batted at No.3, went in at 48-1 and was the next wicket to fall at 112 but despite spending a considerable time at the wicket, only scored 17 runs. First match last season I holed out to mid-off second ball so an improvement on that but it still felt very frustrating. The ironic thing was that I had finally timed a shot a couple of balls before then tried the same shot again but this time only managed to lob a simple catch to cover. We finished on 154-5 off 45 overs.

After tea I bowled 10 overs for 37, got 2 wickets but couldn't prevent the home side winning by 2 wickets. However I didn't go for a single boundary in the 37 runs I conceded but our team included 5 people less mobile than me (which is saying something) and New Earswick quickly realised the lack of mobility so picked up too many singles.

Match was played in a superb spirit throughout, exemplified by the home team umpire who did both ends during their innings and gave 4 LBWs.

Cancel what I wrote here earlier, I have somewhat surprisingly been called up into the 1sts.
