Title: Recommendations for thighs pads.
Post by: fasteddie on May 01, 2014, 03:01:18 PM
All.

I'm looking for a new set of thigh pads.
I've looked at Strettons and was going too, but I just don't face really quick stuff anymore.

I'm after something light and thin.
A decent level of protection but not like armour.

Any thoughts?

why not just get some Aldreds, some Uzi's or the standard Kooka inner and outer combo? I've seen this years Aldreds for example and tbh, they'll protect you from anything we as amateurs are going to face. cheap too

If lightness and thinness is your concern then StrettonFox are best who offer this so protection would be bonus for you in this case.

The TON ones I've found to be great, (Bought a set for the brother) I think Vitas is selling them for under £30. Seriously considering replacing my P2s with a set, since they just feel a lot sturdier, and are thinner!

I would go for the BAS ones of Uzi Sport or potentially a set of us which are decent and quite a good price.

I use kookaburra inner and outer combo, good protection and slim enough so it's not too bulky , my mate got P2 and I find them too bulky for my liking.

Best thing is to go to a shop and try them out if pos.

I see your logic. My thought is that if I can spend £30 I don't need to spend £80+

I love a thigh pad thread!!

Given your sensible budget ask yourself

do I want a p2 style set - in which case go for the P2's, SS or Blank bats options

do I want an old school inner an outer set - in which case go for the bas ones from Uzi as first choice or otherwise whichever brand you like as they are all the same with different logos on.

Edit - why not have some of these to match your bats... http://www.h4l.co.uk/index.php/cricket-protection.html (http://www.h4l.co.uk/index.php/cricket-protection.html)

Good answer.

I'm looking for separates. I don't like the idea of co-joined pads.

If thinness is your main worry, and you're using that logic, why spend £30 when you can put a free newspaper under your whites!
Job done  ;)

Surprised that Aero strippers haven't been mentioned.

Great product, not too expensive and stay very still whilst at the crease

Can't go wrong with the P2's. Light, more than enough protection, fit well and can be washed to keep them fresh!!

I dunno, I had some p1's and was very un impressed. P2's look better but not really better than the normal stuff you get cheaper

For me the kookaburra players are the thinnest ones and have solid stuff in side. I've not seen as many sets as others though!

I'm also looking for the same at the moment. Has anyway got any experience with the GN legend inner and outer thigh pads?

Could I be the only person on the forum who likes P1 Strippers?  I've had them for 7 years and they've been excellent.  Top levels of protection and they stay in place really well.  Although initially I found them a little bulky, I soon got over that and hardly notice I have them on when I'm batting.

I am a fan but couldn't get over how bulky they were. The protection was great but I'm a big chap so I was looking for something a outer and inner combo with less girth. The new GN legends looked decent but I can't find any reviews on them and Strettons are out of my price range.

Hi Leddster

Maybe the P2 Strippers would be less bulky?  The advantage for me is that they stay in place really well, I tried Strettons but didn't get on with them and went back to my Strippers!

I am wary of the Legends because they are lined with leather. Can't see it being pleasant once you have sweated all over them.

For some reason the left handed version is £27!! It's normally the other way round.

I hadn't realised that, I got sucked in my the "ballistic technology" blurb. Not sure I'd have enough talc for a leather lined thigh pad :)

If you wear compression shorts. Then a leather thigh pad won't bother you. Be nice on top of the shorts.

If you don't.  It can't feel nice once sweaty. But then people do wear leather trousers..........

I use the GN ultimate thigh set. Really comfortable and light, don't feel them when I am batting
