Who was in the wrong?
-
any footage on this?
-
Both of them. I don't blame Stac for bowling the ball - as if Pollard had hit it, it could've been seen similar to the Andre Russell thing yesterday where it looked as though he was going to stop in his delivery stride.
Pollard should not have reacted like he did.

Stac to blame, he's been sledging every single game and acting like a complete tool, despite getting smashed.
Stac's lucky that bat got stuck in his hand
-
Starc shouldn't have bowled it - immature and shows his true nature IMO
Pollard equally shouldn't have thrown the bat, he is VERY lucky that it didn't hit Starc as I'm sure he intended!!!
-
Pollard looks like at the very last minute he changed his mind as it looked like he really meant to throw that bat at starc
-
Stac just celebrated that run out like a tool again. It's the ipl so neither will get a ban
-
When a batsmen makes room down leg, your best to follow him.............
-
Great theatre though
But surely you can't bowl if the batsman walks away especially bowling at him as well
-
He walked as he was in his delivery..
Starc shouldn't have followers him but Pollard was OTT

Pollard had turned his back and had pulled out early enough. Stac was clearly aiming for him despite knowing it's a deadball

Your confused, that's how pollard plays his switch hit........
-
Starc in next, could be more drama. Wonder if pollard will return the favour
-
Pollard has always been a bit of a bully. Good on Starc to not back down.
Hope they both get fined though.
Starc runs him out, Pollard catches him out. Karma or what !!
-
Shocking!
Both at fault. Immaterial who is at fault more.
Fine both of them. More than the fine, ban for 1 or 2 games.
-
To be honest, that's just village by both.
Starc would have only hit a leg with a pad on, a short ball would've been a better option.
As for Pollard's placement of the bat, he was aiming for mid off and it went to cow corner, far too much bottom hand!
-
I absolutely hate Pollard. He thinks he is gods gift to cricket. Starc should not have bowled the ball, but good stuff getting stuck into that stuck up waste of space.
-
Ironically, both got the other out :)))
-
Only thing Starc did wrong was not to bowl it as a Beamer.
Pollard is a tool and should be facing a hefty ban afte chucking a bat at an opponent, or at least trying to. Doubt he will though as he's seen as a superstar and plays for a big side.
-
I think Starc was thinking he was backing away, as batsmen do in 20/20, so followed him with the ball.... Pollard is a serious tool

To be fair, if Pollard is getting banned for chucking the bat, Starc should be for bowling the ball AT the batsman who has stepped away well before the delivery stride.
-
Could have been thinking he was doing the batsmens version of an Andre Russell. Starc followed him. Pollard over reacted

Pollard had his back turned at the point of delivery. That's why pollard reacted the way he did. Back turned and a ball coming towards his way with very little protection.
Starc was mouthing off the ball before incase it was missed.
Anyway both won't be banned since the ipl never ban players for on field behaviour. A few seasons ago Munaf Patel pushed/abused the umpire and only got a fine.
Fair to say pollard won that given that rcb got smashed after that point. Think Sammy put it best, same result everytime it happens.

I think Pollard embarrassed himself a bit here. Starc HAS to be that worked up to bowl quick and want to hit a batsman who will smash him out of the game if he gets half a chance. Look at Steyn, Johnson, Lee, even Jimmy Anderson. They have all thrown dot balls back at batsman and sledged so badly the stump mice have to be turned off. Fast bowlers just have to be that way. Starc was worked up and angry so when Pollard backed away he first thought to follow him and perhaps acted petulantly. But it is just impossible for someone running in at that pace to see a batsman move away to leg, think he wants to give himself room to clobber it and decide to follow him then last minute realise Pollard is pulling out and just stop the action mid way through. He is bowling 90 mph!
Plus for all that stuff I said about angry bowlers there is an equally strong case for stoic batsmen. Viv, Tendulkar, Amla. All the best batsmen will just stare you down and hit the next one for four. Or even better, stare you down and leave the next one like chanderpaul or Dravid (different format I know) letting the bowler know he is nowhere near getting in their head.
-
Ha! 'Stump mice'. My bad. *mic.

I fundamentally disagree with this. Starc could see in plenty of time that he had turned his back and was walking away. Even running in hard to bowl at 90mph. There was no reason to release the ball, and even less to bowl it at the back of a batsman. There was no way you could mistake that for backing away to leg to have a hit.

completely agree, if he wanted to make a point he could've throw it at the stumps and knocked them down. He's lucky pollard changed his mind and threw it away from him. i wouldn't have blamed him at all for planting the bat in his face starc was well out of order.

These West Indians and Australians really seem to hate each other these days, this isn't the first incident over the last couple of years.
-
Plenty of history of Pollard pulling out while batting and bowling, he is a antagonist to the extreme and like most bullies can't handle it when he cops it back.
-
I think they're both Idiots.
-
I don't know why starc bothers to try verballing, he always seems to bowl poorly when it happens.
-
Pollard definetely overreacted by throwing his bat; starc should not have bowled it however...pollard, if I recall had a problem with Watson once as well? Also in the ipl I believe.
-

Exactly and not just last couple of years. The hatred goes back a lot longer than that.
-
Word is the Australian players like to give it to Pollard for acting like the big man, despite him having never played Test cricket.
-
Pollard's a douche. Simple as.
Overrated dirty slogger. After 4 years in the IPL he's finally strung together a few decent innings back to back and now he thinks he's the man.
After earning over $5m in the last 4 years and doing jack, I'd be keeping my head down and trying to show people I can actually play a bit rather than act like an idiot.
As for Starc, he shouldn't have done what he did. But pollard's ego needs taking down a peg or two.
Also Starc hasn't been getting smashed around, in fact he's one of the best bowlers in the current IPL.
-
Nailed it Gerry, nailed it
This can be locked now admin cheers :)
-
I still think that Starc is in the wrong, he can clearly see pollard moving away, hence following him. Pollard Over reacts but I wouldn't fancy a ball at ninety hitting me in the back where I have no protection !
-
It's a shame that their egos took what was a bit of entertaining gamesmanship in to pure stupidity. Anyhow by the looks of things Starc did not fancy squaring up to Pollard hahaha
-
Pollard consistently runs through his bowling action and doesn't release the ball ( appears same problem with the bat! ) only to eyeball, verbal....the batsman. >:(
Anyway new generation, at least Dennis and Javed made contact!
Anyways it's just not cricket :-[
-
I wonder if things like this and Warney carrying on like a dick in his last season of big bash are encouraged by organisers for a bit of theatre. T20 certainly has a touch of Rock and Roll wrestling about it.
-
Just watched this again.
There is no chance Starc can think Pollard is backing off to leg. Pollard turns his back to the stumps to walk away.
As shown in the picture below. Be an interested bit of invotation if you can make a (sorry for potato quality)

That's what I've been saying for a while. He's got his back turned.
People saying pollard overreacted, but he reacted the way he did because he's been out for months with a knee injury. That could have easily injured the back of it again.
How would you guys like to have your back turned to a guy bowling 145 and see how you would react.
Starc was quick to run back to his bowling mark away, not a single word either. He knew what he did
-
Still can't believe they were not banned a couple of games each.
Interesting to note, no one knows how much Pollards fine actually is, as no one knows what Mumbai are paying him!
-
My take on this.....
Starc started giving it mouth the ball before, sledge time!
Pollard probablly pulled out (early enough for Starc to see) next ball to pay him back for Starc being a mouthy muppet previous ball!
Starc had a rush of blood and gave Pollard a scare by following him and bowling him. Was he aiming for him or aiming to just get close to him with the ball? Only Starc knows for sure! But he shouldn't have bowled it, particularly as Pollard has his back turned, and therefore had little protection from a 90mph ball! :(
Pollard was rightly livid and went to throw the bat, but pulled out at the last second, as sanity just about won through in time!
Starc high-tailed it quickly back to his mark as he'd realised that he had gone way too far!
Pollard was still livid as he could have ended up injured through Starc's stupidity.
Who was in the wrong? BOTH of them!
Starc was obviously in the wrong for the reasons outlined.
Pollard was also in the wrong as he reacted very poorly when he almost threw the bat - that is also unforgivable!
I know that people see throwing a bat as more dangerous than what Starc did.....but I would rather be 20 meters away from somneone throwing a bat at me than having someone bowl a 90mph ball at me with my back turned! The bat wouldn't be travelling that fast and could avoid that. Whereas a 90mph ball hitting you on your back or another unprotected bit of your body would be agonising at best, and the injury could be nasty!
I see Starc as the main culprit in this one! But both need to be kicked in line quickly and bring them down to Earth!
-
Very ugly scences for a cricket match and the punishmeent given to Pollard was a joke, surely he deserves at least a 2 match ban for his actions?
-
If it was serious cricket he would of been.
IPL can't afford for big names to get suspensions as they generate the revenue the whole tournament is for.
Mickey Mouse cricket, Mickey Mouse punishments. It's quite fitting.
-
Whatever has gone on with him so far forget it......that catch was out of this world
-
That was unbelievable catch!
-
Pollard is an incredible athlete, he's overrated as an allrounder but you can't really fault him as a fielder.
