Title: Kookaburra Genesis refurb
Post by: mohawks94 on May 10, 2014, 05:09:46 PM
I recently bought a Kookaburra Genesis Hurricane on ebay, its come through and it pings nicely, but I haven't started doing any work on it. I bought it partly as a summer project, and partly for nostalgic reasons as I used Genesis bats when I was playing for my district at under 14s and averaged 61, and haven't quite reached those heights since the next season with my Ice. This one weighs about 2lb7oz, and although the grains are not the prettiest, I can only assume it was graded on performance, and from the short net I had with it, it definitely goes! Am going to be typical and do before and after shots, I have already changed the grip, but that is all. I want to keep the stickers on ideally, but I will probably replace the toe guard. Here are a few shots I just took:

Keeping the stickers on there shouldn't be a problem.
Sand down the face and wack a scuff sheet on (if that's your thing) and you're good to go. Shouldn't have to touch the sticker.

You could also put some watered down glue I the cracks but that's probably not nesessary

Just started the refurb. Gone over it with nice scratchy sandpaper, then smoother stuff. Still a few deeper scratches evident, but we all start somewhere! Taken off the toe guard, given it a good coat of oil, just waiting for that to dry before I hide it again so my dad doesnt find out about it! He doesn't understand why someone needs 6 bats (I have a major soft spot for a good Kookaburra!) Will post some pics once the oil has soaked in :) I'm in a refurbing mood so I am now having a go at my CCX
