I know the rules on bowling if a player is late, but say we field first and do so with only 10, and the 11th man then arrives at the interval. Are there any restrictions on hwere he can bat, bearing in mind we have no used a substitute?
Thanks

Every league is different, have you checked the rulebook and can't find an answer?

Basically, so just wondered what the norm, was- I know in testes there is a restriction on batting higher than 7 if you've been off the field, but that's with a substitute I presume.

Pretty sure you'll need to read your own league book but there will be a restriction I would imagine.

Hmmmm...I would argue that if he has not fielded he cannot bat at all because he has not taken part in the match!

Plus, what's to stop you fielding a 12th man (good fielder), then at half time some awesome batsmen who just doesn't want to field turning up and having a good bat. Hopefully your league will have restrictions and if they have missed 45-50 overs fielding they'd bat no higher than 10

Given the league level i play at then occasionally someone does run late, if so they or we ask to field first to give the other team a small advantage till said player arrives, but thats just the level i play at.

We've a 3pm start on a weekday, only 10 players can make it to the ground for 3, and an 11th should get there around 5-6, that's hardly giving us much of an advantage.

I have no idea regarding actual league rules but we have a very good system within our club which we have introduced this year. If someone arrives late for the meet time without informing the skipper with a valid reason, they have to pay an extra £2 for their subs and are 'invited' to spend 30 minutes after the game on the track with either the roller or the brush. So far it has worked out great, everyone is either turning up on time or a lot of useful ground work is being done much to the delight of our groundsman.

We decided it was pretty tough to hit players with penalties like that for midweek games that start so early, I have to leave work at 1.30 today, but not every has a boss that's as understanding!

Yeah midweek games don't count for the above sanctions. We are lenient if people have a valid reason and let the skipper know but usually its a case of they are hungover and stopped off at the nearby McDonalds. the main issue with it is that the same old punctual people always end up doing all the pre match jobs, so that's a way of balancing it out.

pretty sure the general rules of cricket state that if you miss a certain amount of time you cant bat higher than 7, cant see many batsmen giving up a top 6 slot just to avoid fileding.
We have to submit teamcards 15mins before the start which includes a 12th man if we have one, so if your on the teamcard you play regardless when you turn up (with the bat lower than 7 and usual bowling restrictions if neccessary) and only the named 12th man can field as 12th man.
