Lara's playing!
That's enough reason to support Team Sachin.

I am disappointed it is being played on a Saturday - This is prime league cricket commitment time!

Sunday would have been a much better option!

Just gutted I won't be able to make it down to Lords.

Lara and Sachin batting together and Warne and Murali in tandem sounds like very good viewing

if not televised it would be a shame as they would get a lot for a game like that I would've thought

Just noticed Chris Read managed to sneak onto #TeamSachin...

Now I remember his international career being remembered for something... Was it because he was a world beater...?

odd mixture of players. Some retired, some less than superstars.

Don't think it will match the 1987 version, I think everybody was still playing test cricket:-

Why, when they could have anyone in the world, do they insist on having a chucking cheat in each team?

Why, when it's already been brought up in nearly every other thread, do you have to mention this here  ;).

Think my bet will be Tendulkars team will edge a win however it's really difficult to judge when you've got quite a few retired players in each!

Chucking cheat....are you referring to murali by any chance...because if you do then get a life sir....calling a legend like him a chucker is highly disrespectful for his huge fan following...and not for him because he is way over respect and disrespect.....

Nope, its just stating a fact.  Its time the authorities did something to clean up the game and that means ridding it of darts players!

Not looked at fixtures and stuff but would Sangakarra not be over here after just finishing the England tour? He would be a very good choice and fit in a bit better I'd have thought  :D.

That's a whole other debate that we've all been having recently - suffice to say that they don't, the game is just lacking the cojones to call them on it!

Good line ups overall for both teams but the batting for team Shane primarily consists of attacking ODI style of batsman and team Sachin of retired greats of test cricket.

considering that this is an ODI game odds favor team Shane.

People are always apprehensive about things that are beyond them. The same with reverse swing. Only possible by ball tampering (when Akram and co were expertly doing it) until the English fast bowlers learnt to do it.

It was an unfortunate event. It was a private comment that was accidentally picked up. He has apologised which should be enough.
Piers Morgan's opinions should have no sway as he is one of the most odious beings to walk the earth. The man is a serpent.
And lets be honest - KP isn't known for being a good egg and team player. His arrogance is dialled up to 11 .

Fantastic day today i went with an indian fan so he was made up and right next to kapil dev!

And two great tons from finch and yuvraj

Gilchrist also still looked pure class in my opinion (in batting terms, nothing special keeping but never really got the chances I guess).

I think the majority of people were sitting next to Indian fans :D. Had to be roughly a 50% Indian crowd I'd have thought!

Both Warne and Finchs misses when the ball hit them looked so painful, wouldn't have liked to be them. Anyone know if Gul got injured in any way, I presume so as I noticed he was off and Tendulkar and Finch were bowling his overs. Also noticed Pollock seemed to have taken to the field in the 2nd innings!

Sachins innings was lovely to watch and he still looked in good nick, amazingly his technique hasnt changed in 20 years unlike many top pros.
The dink shot he played to get out was bizarre, I dont remember him ever playing this ever in a match.
Lara played one cut shot and cover drive that made my day, that wonderful high backlift and full flourish can not be replicated.
Gilchrist was a treat to watch with some trademark shots that rolled back the years.
Gutted for Dravid whom got bowled for a golden duck, bet that hasnt happened many times in his career.

Finchs 181 sounds amazing, might have to find some highlights of it now. Saw finch play at the Swalec stadium in Cardiff last summer but he was put to shame by Jos Butler who hit a six out of the stadium and over the river outside. It was huge!

He made a very accurate comment about KP.

KP really did make a good case for an England recall! stumped for 10 and 2 overs for 29.
Title: Re: MCC vs RoW
Post by: ppccopener on July 05, 2014, 09:21:31 PM
Kp was made to look silly by ajmal-at one point he was going to run thru the batting with four wickets till he was taken off
Kp then fielded and bowled as if he was not interested
But he did sign autographs for lots of fans today on the boundary
Whatever the rights and wrongs of what Strauss said theres no doubt he meant it
He should apologise for using that word on commentary but thats what he thinks about kp
No love lost there obviously

i enjoyed watching gilchrist opening the batting still looked awesome. i found lara a bit disappointing played 2 good shots and faced 40 balls but still nice to see him.

a big shame that warne got injured (which was why pollock was fielding) and finch and yuvraj were awesome.

i couldn't believe how crazy indian fans go when tendulkar does anything. the first time he fielded the ball i thought they had won the game!

i also managed to get a replica shirt there were only 4 left when i got there

How good is Chris Read behind the stumps! Such a shame he hasn't played more for England...
I know everyone raves about Foster, but I've always thought Read was as good if not better and he has consistantly scored runs in Div 1. Very badly treated by England and a real waste of talent. Instead we've had to watch cymbals Prior for years just because Read made one misjudgement against Chris Cairns.
Title: Re: MCC vs RoW
Post by: ppccopener on July 06, 2014, 07:35:12 AM
I think beaver it helps if your a keeper to appreciate everything Read did yesterday and how easy he made it look
I'm a batsman but what I would say is the speed of the stumpings amazed me and it was all so effortless
He made bad throws in look good and always seemed to be in the perfect position
We saw some great cricket yesterday but my thought is Read stood out amoungst some great players as top class
It was brilliant to watch a top class keeper in action
You do wonder how this guy,or Foster, have been overlooked for England for so long...
Title: Re: MCC vs RoW
Post by: BigBlueMachine on July 06, 2014, 08:02:11 AM
Not sure how true this is but I heard that the reason Read didn't play much for England was because he wasn't proactive enough. The example I was given was in a match the captain (I guess Nasser or Vaughan) had setup for the ball to be swinging. They didn't make a breakthrough and at lunch he asked Read if it was doing much and he said it was gun barrel straight. But cause he hadn't said anything at the time he was seen to not be proactive enough. Like I say not sure if true or not.

Agreed, I do like watching Foster and Read keep. It isn't surprising to see how they have been treated by England, because they seem to favour batsman that can catch, rather than exquisite glove men like Foster and Read. It showed what they thought of Foster when he got his foot back in the door, only for it to be slammed shut again. For me, we could do worse than look at Foster or Read as a short term option if Prior's form behind the sticks or bat struggles.

I know some might favour Buttler, Kieswetter or Bairstow, but I think their glove work needs development and they would be better suited to spending time at their county developing. Even if there are doubts about Foster and Read's batting not being up to scratch, they are more than good enough to bat at 8 in the potential line up that we will field against India. We would have five specialist batsmen (Cook, Robson, Ballance, Bell, Root), plus two batting all rounders (Ali and Stokes). There are seven players that are capable of scoring a lot of runs, most average over 40 with the bat. So the team could afford to take one of the best glove men in the country and bat him at 8. But if Foster and Read's time has passed, then the team could look to one of the better young glove men in the country like Duckett at Northants, Billings at Kent, or Simpson at Middlesex seem to be very tidy glove men. But I don't think England will go down that route if Prior fails, it will probably go to Buttler, Kieswetter or Bairstow because they can add to the batting line up.
