We've a few kit monsters at the club and one chap this season has really gone for it.
A new Laver Signature, Laver Reserve, aside, he produced the new Masuri top of the range lid yesterday.
It looks great. Problem is the weight.
I put it against my £40 Albion (steel grill) and it was a lot heavier. A lot.
I was going to buy the middle of the range model and have our club insignia embroidered on but I will wait now. I carry enough weight on my shoulders, what with these chips I carry, and don't want to topple over at the crease.
Looks great, I'm sure it will stop a speeding bullet, but you'll need a strong neck.
-
I was wondering about this with it's twin bars and all, was very tempting after seeing them in this ODI series , but there is no point going for a heavier one imo
-
Interesting - I'm in need of a new lid since the foam lining of my old one has fallen out...Was thinking about the Masuri but not with that extra weight. Anyone seen one of the new Albion ones with the slimmer grill?
-
2 Seasons ago i had a kook helmet and took one on helmet in the nets so went all out and ordered an Ayrtek ACIS honestly no money can amount for safety and its an awesome helmet as many on here will agree with,
I did try on the new Masuri when i went to owzat cricket, so heavy and bulky in comparison, Ayrtek for me lads any day of the week.

I had the same issue and have hot melt glued it back in. Lol. Rather spend money on gloves, shoes and bats. No performance increase in buying a helmet and still trade it for a baggy whenever I can.

That was what my Mrs said. Probably the most sensible option, but any excuse to buy more kit! :)

I won a Masuri Vision Series Elite on twitter last week and I can also confirm it is very heavy and takes a bit of getting used to but I do like the look and feel of it all together. It is a massive change from my old titanium helmet but I like it. Not bad winning a helmet worth £160!
I won an ayrtek helmet signed by Stuart Broad of twitter. How much is that worth?

£50 because it's been defaced ;)

I don't know the provenance of your team mates helmet FastEddie, but I suspect the Nwiliam's lid is the only one in this topic that is actually a top of the range one. Certainly us retailers (including owzat) don't have stock of the top of the range model yet. It has made it's way to the players but even this i am not sure sure is the Vision Series Xline, I think it might be the Vision Series Elite.
The only helmets in the shops currently as far as i know are the 2 base models, the Club and the Test. We have both and i agree they are heavy.

His bats must be pretty cheap, as every one of them is defaced!

It is yes. I don't believe the Xline has been produced in any numbers yet, maybe not even for the pros.
I would describe the Xline and the Elite as both being top of the range, the major difference between the two is the Elite doesn't have the flip top peak.

Jake.
It is this model.

It's got the second bar at the top of the grill.

Odd that Talent still have the outdated images.
The Vision Series Xline is the top model. The Vision Series Elite is the next model down but as suggested it is only slightly different, it lacks the flip up peak but everything else is the same i believe.
If it is a titanium model i am surprised it is so heavy. The sample i tried on was heavier, but not loads heavier. The design has changed quite a lot since then of course.
The steel grilled Test and steel grilled Club models both weigh just over a kilo. The titanium Test will weigh less i assume but we don't have any yet. We aren't planning to stock the Elite and the Xline has no expected arrival date - based on the last time i checked.

We where both surprised. He'd been using the old Titanium Test Masuri for ages and was not impressed.
We checked it against my Albion C&D steel grill, which was a lot lighter.

On it's own.. £150. With broads paw print.. £10 and a packet of smokey bacon crisps.

They're good mate. I have the Albion Classic (Cloth helmet with a Steel Grille). Sit's very nicely and feels good. Also, great for vision clearance. I've also got an Eliite (Plastic helmet with titanium grille) in a different colour. Both are fantastic and I hardly notice I'm wearing them.
-
Was lucky enough to get one last week.
Not used it yet but first impressions are good. Only down side is that it is heavier than my old masuri which has a steel grill but as I don't get to bat for very long I dint think it will be a problem. On the plus side it is very comfy,

Looks comfy.

I was thinking the exact same thing, must be all those pads.
-
My helmet gets turfed as soon as the openers are off for the baggy. If it was that comfy I'd probably keep it on. Gives you some idea about the standard of comp we play in these days.

There's a part of me that thinks on English wickets, the lower the standard, the more likely I am to wear a helmet! Can't remember the last time a bouncer got up enough that I felt my head was in danger. I wear a helmet all the time btw.

Beamers are probably more of an issue for the majority.. Oh and edging it yourself :)
-
Has there been any word if shrey have complied to the new standards?

That is precisely my point mate!

Dont start this again... :)

So can that grill be removed, looks like it's riveted?

Just thought I will update this instead of starting a new thread.
I have tried that Masuri Vision Series Elite Titanium in a 20 minute net yesterday. And some observations below:-
1. Not sure why it is called Vision as Vision is actually worse in this series, I could not find a setting without having the grill right in front of my eyes but the gaps in the grill design are a bit wider so that helps a bit. I reckon Vision is better in Ayrtek.
2. Weight is just a hair over 2lb, few ounces heavier than the Surridge Youth Helmet I have been using but fits a lot better than Ayrtek on my head.
3. Comfort and Air Flow have definitely been improved and the lining is of much better quality. I did not sweat as much and normally I have sweat pouring from head.
4. Build Quality in my experience is like no other and is certainly very top notch.
To summarise this is a decent helmet, not sure if it justifies the price tag of £160 [I didn't pay that] and is certainly going to take some getting used to purely because of the grill design. I am tempted to give it a some more time before pursuing on the hunt for perfect helmet once again.

Interesting summary. Thanks. I don't suppose this was the Senior Large, which I'm trying to track down for a test drive.

Mens Standard
It has an adjustable thing at the back and feel a bit on the larger size so I will suggest you try it in a shop first and get the correct size for you.
-
Yes, thanks. I will need to try one. I've got an Ayrtek but, like you, it doesn't fit very well - the grill sits too high - though it's the best I've found so far. I already know the Senior Masuri won't fit me, so I'm hoping to try a Senior Large when available. 'When available' is proving to be the issue. I appreciate that Masuri have had their problems since repatriating production, and I realise they're bound to concentrate on satisfying demand from statistically 'average' heads, but you'd think they'd knock out a few in the large size.
A stockist once told me that part of the popularity of the original Masuri was that it either fitted you or it didn't; but when it did, if your head was of average size and shape, it fitted really well. So it's interesting what you say about the adjustable back, which suggests that the Vision Series errs on being over-size, with the ability to adjust it to make it smaller. I live in hope.

After a couple of net sessions, I have decided it is not for me. I just keep losing sight of ball because of the grill design. Putting this on ebay and looking for an old masuri or may be an Albion this time.
-
I am trying to decide between Masuri Vision Series Elite Steel and Adidas PremierTek steel. I want good vision, but don't want to compromise on safely. Any suggestions or recommendations? Thanks!

Fork out more for the titanium version. I'm a recent convert having previously thought titanium was an unnecessary extravagance but then I picked a grille on the cheap off someone on here and my mind was blown.

Spotted this on the bay last night, having tried one on I prefer the old design Masuri's but could probably get used to one of these given time.
Will, like you, be on the lookout for an old design masuri though. (In fact I might buy two if I can get a cheap one and modify one to have an Albion interior!)

What's the difference between Masuri Vision Club Senior and Masuri Vision Elite Steel, other than other than extra bar in steel? Is the gap same in both of them?
I was really sold on new Masuri, but now I am having 2nd thought after reading few reviews...specially narrow vision and weight.

Club is entry level and elite is the top model (I think)
Club hasess ventilation and a powder coated (heavier) grille I'd imagine.
Not sure about the size adjustment but that may also be different.
Might want this confirming from someone who's seen both though :)

Elite is one below the top model.
On their website they have listed the additional features as you go upwards from club.
Elite has better ventilation and I can vouch for that. If it wasn't for the vision, I will never be selling it, that said, quite a few Pros are still using it. Sports direct have some sale on old Masuri.

If your standard is average club level, stick with old Masuri.
