Title: Ball recommendations
Post by: TopShot on June 04, 2014, 04:43:55 PM
Hello Cricketers!

I'm looking to buy some balls for my club. These balls will be used during league games and for general training when they get old. We don't have a big budget so I'm aiming for balls in the $25 or less price bracket. Do any you have a recommendations on balls that would be fit for purpose and not bat breakers. We have had a lot of problems with bat breakers in the past and i am trying to end that trend.

I am currently looking at three possible options:
SG Test
CA Super test
GN Warrior

Anybody have any opinions on these balls? Any help would be much appreciated.

Tiflex Magna, i have recommended it to many people on the forum and all of them are happy with it.

It is available in red, white, pink (and more colours i believe) and i can offer a very good price :)

Hi Tom Line  thanks for the reply

I've seen Jason's blog post on balls (that where I got the three ball options from  :D)

I was just looking for any real world info on these balls. I've heard mixed reports espeicially about the CA balls so i was hoping someone on here might have used these balls or could recommend a different brand that would work.

you could try our own cricket balls, we have supplied to a league in USA and so far they are pretty happy with them. If you are interested you can email or pm me

I have used SG Test balls and the quality is very good, One of the retailers informed there has been an increase of fake SG balls lately and we need to be slightly careful while buying.

Hi Mini

Thanks for the tip. How long have your club been using those balls?

Our league has a standard of readers and has done for the last 3 seasons for consistency - previously some smaller clubs used all manor of rubbish. Personally I prefer the dukes balls we used before that, but that's probably as I used to get them to hoop around  ;)

I can double check this Saturday and make sure about the actual type, actually the whole league has to use that ball and they come with league name printed on the ball, they have been using it for years.

League I used to play in used those balls and they were very good, no issues at all and well worth the money.

we use SG Test in our league and the quality is really good for the price. The ball retains its shape well. only thing is that it has less lacquer so you have to work hard to maintain the shine

You definitely get what you pay for with cricket balls, your best bet is the buy the most expensive one within your budget. We played against some touring team who turned up with a £4.99 sports direct egg expecting a game a couple of years ago. They weren't invited back.

Thanks to all for the tips and recommendations.

I'm giving the readers balls a trial run to see how they go.

For that budget, there is only 1 option. The Tiflex Magna - anything else does not compare.
