I have a bit of an issue with the nets sessions and training at my team,
The main reason is that we have first and second team players who think its funny to stand and smash every ball bowled at them usually back at the bowlers, even tonight I almost got smashed had I not ducked at the last moment to avoid a very rapid ball coming back at me,
My issue is it's not teaching anyone anything at all, the young lads see it and think I want to do that and for those like myself who want to learn more and actually become a better player in just stand there and lose interest very quickly,
Anyone have any ideas on how I can or would recommend other ways to net, and also is this the same at other clubs.

Nets are always one nigh cock around unless there's a captain/coach present aren't they??
Not a lot you can do other than grit your teeth and bear it or get someone to "supervise" I'm afraid mate.

Complete waste of time
Join a local midweek team that play for fun and use it as your net, much better practice and if your out it's no big deal

I agree with that. Firstly it's practice on a grass wicket, which I feel is much more worth while and in a game situation. Secondly, with the British weather, it gives you two chances to play a week :)

I've been doing it since I was 12, I don't think I've netted properly for a long long time (bar 2 years when I was forced to do it) since I was 17 .... Which is nearly 20 years ago!

They can't smash it back at you if it isn't pitched up! Send down some short stuff.

Agreed guys. Use a social game as your net session or, like me, find a serious bunch of blokes/coach to net with. Training with my summer team in Aus was so poor and unsupervised, I refused to waste my time attending.

Don't know how many nets you have, but maybe suggest a first/second net and a net for the other teams

Not sure doing that makes any affect.. Other than making an 'us and them' mentality as people don't mix

That's how it should be, as 1 2nd XI player I don't want to mix with the village rabble that is the 6th XI! ;)
(That was a joke before anyone get offended! I'd rather train with everyone in together but 6 teams is a few too many for that to be possible.)

Might need too run an different net for the other teams / less good players.
If they are smashing every ball you bowl then the gaps to big, it not really their fault.
As at the club to see if there is any interest in getting a coach to the younger lads, and developing players etc. and have a night for that.
As a side note, cricket net where there is a large gap in ability are bloody dangerous. Even if its across nets, i.e. all the 4th team in net 1 and the 1st in all in net 2.

I think it's more the 'good' players fault though.. They get nothing smashing the ball as they don't do it in games so why not actually train the correct shot. Use the slower pace to actually train the correct movements etc. Oh no, doesn't look 'cool'.. Much better just to clout the ball about.. Must be a class player then.. Sigh
