Title: Slipping In and Out of Form
Post by: FattusCattus on July 10, 2014, 08:39:06 PM
Has anyone had this happen to them during one net?????????????????????

Tonight, having not bowled for 4 weeks due to a serious gooly injury I ventured into the nets for the first time. For the first few deliveries, I couldn't land the bloody thing. Then for a glorious section in the middle I had a 1st XI batter in all sorts of trouble with my swingers, then by the end, I couldn't land it again.

Why is form such a fickle mistress???

Also, does anyone else find they bowl better, when you simply don't think about anything - you just run up and let it go?

Decide what you are going to do before you start to run in,  then clear your mind for run and release.  Makes you bowl much better...

I feel at my most comfortable when I don't have to think about bowling. An uncluttered mind makes bowling so easy.

last sentence sez it - trying too hard late in the session, probably trying to do a bit more with it, plus you haven't bowled for a bit so you would have tired quicker, so once you send one tired bad un down you try to compensate and it's a downward spiral from there. Nowt to worry about mate, your muscle memory is intact as the good balls showed and it will all be back together again sooner than you think.  ;)

That happens to me often as a former opener, now net bowler.

I'm no coach but have trained enough so hers my break down of what happened to you:

Stage 1 - Confidence. when you don't have it in yourself either due to injury or lack of practice you over think it and tend to try to place the ball or bowl to fast. , rather than let it flow. eg the A grade captain / Best Bast in the club / Known slogger steps into the nets and you over do it and start spraying it.

Stage 2 - Rhythm . It all starts to happen and you relax and don't think about it.

Stage 3 - Your tired - Get off   :D In the game your dragged, so know your limits and once you hit them go and practice your fielding/sledging/chatting. then and hour later try a shorter spell

Fattus my friend form is temporary but class is permanent.

With the amount the majority on this forum play a break of 4 weeks is a lot so it will take a while . Also that break probably means the muscles got tired hence length etc becomes harder and you in turn over think trying to correct it and end up trying to hard.
