I have taken the plunge and Gary is kindly making me a lovely bat.
I have opted for a hybrid type Redback. A cross between the Allegiance and Surefire.
But I now have to decide which stickers I would like on it - the nice red Surefire, or the class blass Allegiance?
What do you guys think???
-
allegiance ftw. Too classy and luxurious NOT to go for it!
-
Surefire look nice :)
-
I was thinking the Allegiance straight away, but have made that age-old mistake of looking at the Surefire and thinking how nnice those new red stickers look against a white drip! DOH!!!
Why do i torture myself like this!!!
I have the weekend to think about it and make up my mind!
-
On the front the surefire, and on the back the black?
not sure if that would be allowed but i think that would look class
-
Now why did you have to go and suggest that!!!!

What is your like? Red with white grip?
-
Black stickers with white grip, would look pretty classy ;D
-
I've got the Allegiance stickers, and use white grips. Definitely the way forward!
-
Ok - that sounds nice!
The black Allegiance stickers and white grip!
I think that would work well!
-
I would def pick the allegiance stickers mate! I think I'll be ordering one closer to the start if next season. What is the profile going to be like, I know you said a hybrid of both, but which aspects?
-
Had a good chat with Gary and decided on the following spec:
Weight: 2-11/12
Grade: Premier (8-10 grains)
Profile: Allegiance / Surefire
Getting it pre-knocked in by hand.
But it will be similar to the Allegiance in profile, but I wasn't concerned with huge edges.
So Gary will be making the edges slightly thinner, but adding more wood to the meat of the bat.
It should mean a longer and wider sweet spot. And a more forgiving blade.
I guess it should also mean it will go like a bullet if I get it anywhere near the middle of the bat!!
Oh yeah - and also Black Allegiance stickers with a white grip........probably!!!
-
that sounds beautiful mate, cant wait to see pics
-
I must admit that I'm seriously looking forward to it arriving!
Gary said it should be the back end of next week. And will have camera poised ready to post pics on here!
-
What is your like? Red with white grip?

-
Nice willow. The fusion skyer is good too!
And that transparent handle on the Fearnley is so amazing! ;-)
But Red with white grip is fab - could do with a pic of the black sticker with a white grip to compare it with!
-
Did you get your redback through Pete? and what labels did you get?
-
I decided on the black labels with the white grip.
Still not here yet.
-
could you get the stickers off that magnum??? I want them for my part made i am going to destroy!
-
Ok - Gary has sent pics of the blade and the profile of my finished bat!!
Not quite sure how to post pics - anyone do this for me???
-
I will mate.
-
There you go Pete. Looks good.

-
WOW! That is some seriously nice willow.
-
Looks fantastic, Gary keeps churning out beauties! Doesn't look like there is too much concaving on it?
-
The spec I asked Gary for was:
Weight: 2-11/12
Grade: Premier (8-10 grains)
Profile: Surefire/Allegiance hybrid
Stickers: Allegiance
Grip: White
Knocked In: Yep!
So we had discussion on the phone and I told him I was happy for the edges to be smaller with more meat on the back of the blade - didnt expect the edges to even be as bog as they are. Am looking forward to trying this bat out!! ;D
-
Hi Pete,
Are you selling any of the Gazillion bats you have as I am always on the hunt for more wood.
Cheers
-
Hi mate
Thanks for offering to post the pics for me (and thanks Lucifer for doing it)
I will eventually be looking at selling some bats. At the moment, I am kind of trying to sort out which ones need a refurb.
So I have several being refurbed and a few more to address in the next couple of weeks.
I will probably leave it until after Xmas now, as this time of the year is always so blooming manic!
One thing I will start to do within the next week or so, is start to post some reviews, so should be some nice bats on there soon!
-
Ok no worries mate, what standard of cricket do you play if you don't mind me asking?
-
Looks amazing, really impressed.
what shirts are they by the way, behind the bat?
-
I didnt start playing cricket until 5 years ago.
I grew up playing a good standard of rugby and football, and doing martial arts! So I didn't have time for any more sport!!!
But 5 years ago I started playing for a decent village side and batting at no.11.
But my average (year on year) has gone 0, 1, 7, 12, and this season just under 30. And have moved up to bat at no.5 or 6. And occasionally no.2.
We also play a twenty20 friendly league mid week, although ?I have just done my level 2 coaching, so didnt have too much opportunity between coaching for mid-week matches last year!!
So not a great standard compared to alot of people on here, but I am still learning the game. And am a stubborn git who is always determined to do things well. So will keep going until I am too old, or move onto something else!!
-
Hi Leeroy
The pics were taken by Gary (from Redback) and he sent them to me today.
So not sure what the shirts are. But if you ask him, he wil prob tell you.
-
OK cool.
Since I joined this forum about 6 weeks ago, I could easily have bought about 20 bats (and have now bought 2!)- the custom made boys stuff looks amazing, I have to say...
-
I like the look of some of the bats. But as soon as I saw some of the pics of the Redback bats, I couldn't resist!!
If this bat goes like it looks, it going to have to be in the main kitbag alongside the Screaming Cat and Laver!!!
Wisden rated Redback so highly in their 2009 kit test too!! They stated something like "goes like a barn door in a gale!" and evidently the test bat had to be prized out the testers hands, as they didn't want to give the bat back!
So I suspect that once I get this bat, it won't be going anywhere but in my hands!!
-
They are signed shirts from various sponsored players (the players actual shirts)
-
Hey - I wonder if any of the players from this forum will eventually have success at a good level (such as County) and sign you a shirt?
Are there any players on this forum likely to progress to anywhere close to County level????
-
Tommy B is very close I believe.
-
Now that looks like a very NICE piece of willow :)
-
Cool - I get the impression that there are some decent players on the forum!
And I will take lots of pics and do a review when it arrives - it should be waiting at home tomorrow when I get home!
It almost feels like Christmas!
-
Looks awesome pete, I've been looking to buy a redbackk for sometime now, and I want a similar profile to yours, although I would go with the surefire stickers! Have you used your beast yet mate?
-
Am waiting for it to arrive. Gary takes a couple of pics and then sends the bat off. Should arrive tomorrow - and the profile looks good.
I will take some clearer photos when I review it.
Let me see what its like first, and will let you know what the pick-up and feel of the bat is like. And if you like the sound of it, you will know which profile to order.
And I was undecided about the labels too, but the black lebels won (only just) - personal preference I guess.
If you want, I will be happy to let you know once I have got the bat?
-
Looks awesome Pete and think you have an absolute gem there! Hope you score plenty with it!
-
OK - it's arrived! It is a gorgeous looking bat too.
I guess I had better dig the camerqa out and write an initial review!!
So will see if I can start that tomorrow - so watch the review section in the next day or two!
-
cmon pete. . . wheres the review. just wondered how it compares to L&W and M&H that you have.
-
Ok - have been a little occupied with work and family stuff.
But I will promise to do it this week!
I will take some nice pics of the bats too, for those who like a bit of bat porn! ;D
The Redback is a beaut of a bat and I will try not to leave any detail out!
-
Peter. . . .am i gonna see this review ???
-
Its funny you should ask, as I took a few photos today to go with the review!
So pics taken, words to do now. ;D
-
