Scales please Dave.

What do you mean the cleft weight what it means is if you say got the dw shape in a 400 cleft it would be 2-12
With this cleft it would be the same shape but at 2-7 mate
Weight of a cleft is not import as it the size for the weight if you get my drift.

I'm only asking the question Dave.
Does the bat weigh 2.15 or 2.10 as you have stated ?

I'm only asking the question Dave.

It's not a bat. it's a Cleft.
The statement is that a bat made with a 400 density cleft(average cleft) would weight 2.15. One made with this cleft to the exact same shape would make a 2.10.

Probably shouldn't be insulting other members of the forum when you're asking questions and they're answering them for you...
-
@187no. Please read other topics on the way that B3 describes bats before making statements such as the ones you have in here. You don't need to know the weight of the cleft. What you need to know is what the weight of the finished bat will be.
This is the information you are being given.
-
Hello just picked this up we do not class clefts in weight but density mate.
So what I'm saying is if the buyer wanted a "DW" profile which is 2-12 in a 400 cleft and asked for the 349 cleft then the bat would be 2-7oz.
Because it is 51 under the normal density and for ever 10 is a ounce lighter or over 400 heavier.
Does that make sense mate??
-
We can also drop the shape 1mm all round at 1mm per ounce as well but then it becomes more bespoke.
Or supesize
I designed another shape today with Streaky wizardry.
Design to be shown I'm proud of it.
-
To the people who contacted me beforehand i hope your happy with the low density stuff you have waiting to be made you have got some serious bits of wood.
-
That sounds like the cleft I need!
-
That 349 cleft! Ah man wished I'd checked my phone earlier today. Someone's going to get a massive bat with that.
-
Nobody has bought it mate still avalible
-
Just in passing, can anyone please confirm the weight of this 368 bat ?
-
Just in passing, can anyone please confirm the weight of this 368 bat ?
Once again, 368 is the density of the raw cleft. Weight of the bat will vary depending on the profile you choose. And you can basically have it made to whatever weight you want.
As others have suggested, read a few of the topics in the B3 section. This one is a good starting point - http://custombats.co.uk/cbforum/index.php?topic=31388.0 (http://custombats.co.uk/cbforum/index.php?topic=31388.0)

The correct question should be - what will be the weight of a bat made with this cleft in xyz profile and desired edge size - xx mm and spine height - yy mm
-
2.7 I reckon if a real bat maker is allowed access.
-
Based on the required dimensions and density B3 have calculated the exact weight to the nearest 0.2 ounces
187no ..... Do you argue with yourself a lot, you seem to be quite an argumentative person.

:D :D :D not enough X's in B3's branding for 187 I feel...

It a shame I though I was sharing and hopeingpeople got what we do.
After all this is community of bat badgers and I guess I'm one of the biggest.
-
So, have I got this right Dave - The 376 1 stripe cleft you have pictured - I could order in the Bragg shape - ask for it to be 2.9lbs, and it would be pretty chunky?
This would cost - £140?
Can you specifiy round or oval handle for this price?
-
I am probably the least numerate person in existence and even I can grasp this concept - Dave explained it very well.
-
Are you James?
We have a winner, Ding Ding Ding!!!

That is correct Brucie, they will offset the profile of the Bragg based on a 400 cleft which would give you a bigger looking bat for its weight.
The handle can be made round or as oval as they can based on the size of the shoulders/handle.
Think I've got that right haven't I Dave?
Cost wise I wouldn't have a clue. I will post a photo of mine after it was shaped
-
Here's mine just after shaping - looks massif! Think there is a inch or two to take off the length
Hope Dave and B3 don't mind me posting it (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/08/ate9y5es.jpg)

Unless James has moved to the USA then I doubt it!
Dave, that light cleft looks incredible! If I had spare dosh I would have to take that off you!
Hope someone off the forum has that, as I'm desperate to see how big the finished bat will be!!
-
If you sold 1% of your bat collection Pete I bet you could afford anything at b3 ;)

Back shelf full of ones and "Pro" and a few juniors.
If your thinking about your next bat get what you want and pick what you want...
-
Hi Dave, do you guys grade clefts as 'pro' due to their density, or have you guys managed to gauge performance?
-
Hi Dave, do you guys grade clefts as 'pro' due to their density, or have you guys managed to gauge performance?
Crown clefts are a strange one really some pro who use lighter bats 2-6 to 2-8 use crown so they get the same size as a 2-11 or 12 bat.
But most Pro use 3 and some 2 stripe mate we just pick them out as some like 2 tone which we would not sell as 3 stripe because more than half is heartwood and so on mate so want 20 grains and do not care for evenness.
Hope that makes sense.
In my eyes a crown is only worth it if your bat is going to be under 2-8 or one of the hard to get beautiful grains ones.
Most pro are not as fussy as people think yet some are and fair enough it there trade.
-
Hello all I'm back at hq all day Thursday is there anything anybody wants or anything people want to know.
I'm hopeful of getting a date for the 2nd birthday I will take a few pictures of the specials on offer.
Clefts anything people want pictures of or anything also questions to the doctor as I'm be doing a Q&A with him if there intrest ?
-
Hi
looking to get a B3 for my son.On a size 6 bat in your custom range, what weight range would he get if I selected "light" in the bat weight settings.
-
I have some Q's for the Dr
Do low density clefts offer any bonuses in terms of performance, and if so why?
Do you believe narrow grained clefts give better performance in general?
Whats the oddest request you have had for a custom shaped bat?
Do butterfly bats cause problems when pressing, given the hardness of the stains?
-
Thanks Dave will get the A's
Any more fire away i intend on getting a final date set for the 2nd Birthday i will get a couple of pictures of the sample bats and other goodies being sold at great discount.
Dave.

Questions for the Dr,
Could he explain B3 thoughts behind pressing a bat and what they look to achieve.
What shape/design of bat have they found to give the biggest coverage/middle
Does ProCricket make a decent cup of coffee
-
What do the guys look for when picking a top performing cleft.
-
is the 349 still there? how much would a bat in the the trott profile weigh using this cleft and how much would it cost?
-
Think the Trott was 2.15 from a 400 cleft so it would be 2.10 in 349
-

In other words, some pro's could hit sixes with a bit of 2 x 4, it's just what they grew up using/has worked for them which guides them when deciding their bats.
-

Indeed that is correct and the 349 has been sold unfortunately but I will see if there any left in that weight not crown.
-

No pro's do not select clefts we do unlike us there not as fussy by and large like is on here.
But they do tend to hit the middle more, well the batting ones

Oh dearie me! :D

Big edges those, what are the specs on that bat. Looks like a beast

The DW1 shape - designed for an international cricketer. I don't know the final weight but I don't think it's as heavy as it looks
-
If it's 2.10/2.11 it's still a massive bat
-
Reckon that will be 2-9.
-
Oh dearie me! :D
Always busy Easo!
-
I was commenting on the monster bat in the foreground! :D
-
Indeed question will be answered very soon
The bat of Easo is so big the spine came poping out of the cleft it was that big.
We went the other way with this bat we made the spine bigger and edges slightly bigger than the dw creating a bigger bat instead of lighter as customer wanted 2/11
-
Proper bat that Easo one

Hi - Size 6 range from 2'0 to 2'3 - so a light size 6 would be 2'0 > 2'1oz
Hope this helps

I have some Q's for the Dr
Do low density clefts offer any bonuses in terms of performance, and if so why?
For a given weight and design - the size of a low density cleft will be larger (approx 1mm for every 10 in density). The larger the bat = the bigger the cross section - the stiffer the bat will be during dynamic impact
Do you believe narrow grained clefts give better performance in general?
In general, clefts with more grain will perform better, this is due to them being stiffer. This is in general terms, as wood is natural, it will always have a natural variation in inherant stiffness. It also key to point out that a tight grained bat will not last as long as a wider grain (generally)
Whats the oddest request you have had for a custom shaped bat?
We have had a wide range of designs, its hard to say the oddest, as this is all in the eye of the beholder
Do butterfly bats cause problems when pressing, given the hardness of the stains?
No, as we do not cut our bow but press it, the cantilever type press rides over the harder butterfly stain.
-
Questions for the Dr,
Could he explain B3 thoughts behind pressing a bat and what they look to achieve.
We are able to press each piece of timber differently (as each piece is different) by taking your time and making sure you do it right - you get the optimum performance. How we press and our 5 stage process is part of our bat making heritage and is part of why everyone wants to use our bats. Make no mistake, we press all our bats exactly the same process, whether you are the number one bats man in the world, or a local league player
What shape/design of bat have they found to give the biggest coverage/middle
This is an easy one - the 1271, has an absolute monster of a hitting zone, it has the biggest volume of any bat we have made, and therefore cannot be made lightly. However the design does pick up remarkedly well and can achieve weights of 2'10oz with the Crown grade
Does ProCricket make a decent cup of coffee
Would n't know - he's never made one ;-)

finchie's bat in the bg for sure! just had to send my b3 bat after a few hits and the gloves have already split, not looking forward to using a different stick on saturday it has been a belter of a bat!

Somebody asked me today with B3 expanding in volume is our quality still the same and what the concept and passion of B3.
I have to say our quality is getting better and better we are driven by passion as most are just because we are growing make no mistake we will not take our eye off the ball.
Passion and excellence go hand in hand as the company grow using both technology and tradition make no mistake because we use a machine to pre-shape designs does not mean there not passion behind every single bat we send out.
We are real people who either work or associate with the brand from Gavin the traditionalist bat-maker who has made for some of the world greatest batsman to the new apprentices we are about passion.
We are looking forward to showing our new softs for next season (They are great what i have seen So far Russ is a master) and looking forward to a few more advances our brain boffin Streako has in store.
Clothing is taking off we offer quality at a affordable price both playing and training and social wear if your a club official get in touch you never know we could offer something great
From the Raffle bats we do at 50 pound plus vat which could net your club £100's we are forward thinking and often outside box thinkers. (Weirdo's well my ideas are)
So the question to the answer i was asked is we are about passion and where about Technology and tradition and most importantly we are about the pro treatment everybody gets.
Look out for a announcement about our birthday party either today or tomorrow it will be a extravaganza with bargains to be had and to meet the team.
