Title: Masuri X-Line or Elite?
Post by: PunterPonting on August 12, 2014, 05:30:00 PM
Is there a difference in safety?

Ones safer on your wallet I think!
Not sure how much of a difference the extra bar would make so if be tempted to go for the cheaper option as a single bar is more familiar.

Still not decided if I want a new style masuri or not!

Is there a difference in safety?
Yes there is. X Line has the Active Peak which is supposed to somehow absorb some of the impact if the ball is hit between peak and grill.

Grill is the same in both.

Where can the eye line grilles be purchased from in the UK?

Dont believe you can purchase new grilles for the eye line mate as they seem to be rivited onto the helmet itself

The new masuri grills come screwed to the helmet already with one directional screws meaning you can screw them in but not out. I have the elite and while at first I did not think I would like the double bar I love the lid now. I don't think you would be disappointed.

Just a note on the elite vs X line if your facing 85-90mph then the added extra of the the active peak might suit but anything less the elite should be perfect :) when you get it pop a few photos up :)

I noticed that most of the England players swapped out their old Elite or Test Masuri's for the new one for the english summer this year.

I've also noticed that Glen Maxwell is the only Australian to swap out.

If it was significantly better protection, surely they would have swapped out very quickly.

I believe they are also a lot heavier so maybe takes a while for people to adjust. I do agree its weird  they wouldn't do it from a safety angle

ive just ordered a vision series test from all rounder with my club badge on it.

they are doing a deal where you can have it embroided and is only 80 quid which is the same as what romida sell them for. i got the titanium one which cost me 140 but i figured id just do it properly. ive just had a redundancy payment and already have a new job so i dont see why not. it should last if i look after it too

i will post pictures when i get it.

They are nice helmets and fit well even with the added weight. Better ventilated also in my humble opinion. The grill and vision was an issue for me else I would have continued with it. Currently on Original Masuri with only myself to blame grill setting.

The original question of Elite or X-Line has now been taken out of your hands. Some retailers have some stock of X-Lines but the model has been discontinued.

Was this purely for sales (or lack of) reasons, or was it deemed to be less safe than the fixed peak model and scrapped?

I can't recall there being a big song and dance about the active peak design and it seems to have been swept under the carpet  ???

I don't know much more to be honest. We got a call to alter our order being delivered next week, they said the X-lines on our order are being replaced with Elites as the X-line is being discontinued.

Ouch, that must be a costly hit for Masuri after all the research they'll have put into it

Wasnt dipsuting if they were nice, just commenting as to why more pro's hadnt adopted to them and i would imagine the extra weight would effect the feel to some people.

I actually want to try one of these on but none of the cricket shops i went into last season had any

Agreed, i thought the active peak was their real advancement with the new model which set it apart from the old masuri style?

My mate got one of the titanium ones as soon as they came out, vision wise they're the same as the old style, comfort is good if you ignore they fact they weigh a ton!
I do like that they're easier to adjust the fit than the older model, and the ventilation does seem to be improved.

I think the safety offered by the standard peak system is so good, that the extra price for the active peak can not be justified even if it is a clever design. The active peak model has a retail price of of £250, which is pretty steep.

So what was the perceived weak point with the old lid then, the grille?

Sorry I think you may have misunderstood - what I was trying to say, was the safety offered by the new standard peak system of the new helmets is so good, that the extra price for the active peak cannot be justified.

Overall I think its good to see that after all the negativity surrounding the design of the Masuri helmets when they were first launched, they have been accepted and we are starting to see them on more batsmen.

There is room to add your club name in the order if they already have your badge/club set up. Otherwise do what i did. Purchase the helmet then once you get your order confirmation reply to it with the image of your club badge. After a few days they send you a sample, if you agree to it they send it off to Masuri to be made. Just a word of warning if you are expecting the 14 day turn around this wont happen. I put my order in on the 30th of last month got an email from all rounder after about a week stating Masuri are behind on orders because they have just finished the massive Big bash orders, therefore it will be with me mid December. Not all-rounders fault obviously as Masuri call the shots. Really looking forward to getting mine though.

I'm yet to see one even at higher levels like the kent prem last year (i wasnt playing just watching). Imagine this season will be different

You would have to send your badge by email to Allrounder Cricket who would then order this on the helmets to be delivered.
